Title: Moving away from Rock, it's time for some Hip-Hop
Post by: Raban on August 23, 2008, 04:02:28 AM
So I spent all of 2007 and most of this year amassing a giant rock and roll album collection. Now that rock is out of my system, it's time to return to my childhood favorite, hip-hop. I need help picking some important albums in hip-hop history. Now don't assume I don't know anything about hip-hop. I know a bit, I love it, and I've already covered quite a few bases. Since not everybody shares the same taste in the genre, I'm gonna post everything I have or am in the process of getting so anybody willing to help has something to work off of. Here's what I have and know I like:

Andre Nickatina
Bullets Blunts N Ah Big Bankroll
Conversation With A Devil

Atmosphere
When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold

Danger Doom
The Mouse and the Mask

Del tha Funkee Homosapien
Both Sides of the Brain
Deltron 3030
Future Development
No Need for Alarm

Hieroglyphics
Full Circle
Third Eye Blind

Kanye West
Late Registration

Souls of Mischief
'93 'til Infinity

Here's the stuff I'm working on getting and listening to:

Dr. Dre
The Chronic
2001

Madvillain
Madvillainy

Mos Def
Black Star
Black on Both Sides
The New Danger

Ozomatli
Self-Titled Debut
Street Signs
Embrace the Chaos

Talib Kweli
Beautiful Struggle

Ultramagnetic MCs
Critical Beatdown
Funk Your Head Up

I tried looking for the original release of Operation: Doomsday! but I can't find anything but the 2001 reissue, so I may have to hunt it down.

Anyways, that's what I have. Please help if you have any recommendations.

also there is a cool del (re)mixtape by zac hendrix which is pretty good, try and find that

And lastly Tech N9ne has some good stuff for as long as he has been around.

except his newest album 11th Hour is complete trash. I'm waiting for Deltron Event II before I'm ready to admit that Del as a solo artist has fallen off for good.
