Title: Burnout Paradise PS3 question

I just got this yesterday, trying it out now

why is it so hard to trigger showtime?  I have just about broken off the fucking l1 + r1 buttons, and nothing

what the fuck am i doing wrong

never mind, have to win four events first, thought i could do it straight out of the box
