That and Ico.
They're fun, but not deserving of all the praise they get.

Wind Waker.

Grand fucking Theft Auto
Most over rated trash ever. 9.8 ratings? Please. Sub par controls, sub par aiming, meh driving controls, etc. It's a game that does a lot of things, but just does them all extremely mediocre.
To make matters worse, we're constantly forced to defend this tripe. I hate it when instead of being able to talk about innovative, all inclusive games that show a different side to gaming, I have to defend cop killing, prostitute beatings, and other "features" of that game. Rockstar greatly harmed the industry with the Hot Coffe incident, and they don't seem to care. For that, I have very little respect for them and their mediocre games.
If Nintendo made a fucking ping pong game people would rag on it as being more non gaming shit. But because it's Rockstar and ohh look fancy graphix the masses seem to not care.

Valkyrie Profile, easily the worst role playing game I have ever played
It's like the Da Vinci Code of bad games, I would have never thought after all the rampant praise and showering it's constantly receiving

Bubble Bobble
-
Never really liked the Silent Hill series. I've played most of SH2, and a little of SH3 & 4. I just can't get into them.
I do like Fatal Frame 1&2 though, so go figure. It just seems like it's a much better done series to me, and I like the first-person viewpoint of them which makes it more frightening. And as far as "scary" games go, Condemned is by far my favorite. Sure, it has it's problems, but it has more atmosphere than you can shake a stick at, and I dare anyone not to be frightened when playing it in the dark in the wee hours of the night and morning. I know I was.

Wind Waker
Pikmin
Metroid Prime

Ecrofirt: GameCube lol
-
Bubble Bobble
you taco, bubble bobble is coming to XBLA, what then
what then
-
When I bought each of those games, I only had a GameCube.
Since I got my Xbox, I'd played no games that I think are shit but that everyone else loves. The only shit games I've played are PDZ and Kameo, and everyone knows they're :hurr :hurr :hurr
-
yeah I really couldn't bear Shadow of the Colossus at all, especially since of the shaky framerate
Soul Calibur in my case
and many overhyped Xbox 360 duds, stop being dazzled by next-gen graphics and remember that there's a game with gameplay mechanics comparable to last gen's folks
-
i kid, i make hot buttery love to bubble bobble :-* :-*

Im making the jump myself next gen if wii is priced at 300 bucks.
You think I'm fucking distinguished mentally-challenged nintendo?
X360 ftw.
-
Wii won't be $300. But that's not what this thread is for.
Wii is also going to be the only console getting my money this fall. I'm really underwhelmed by 360 so far, and the only worthy looking purchase Dead Rising.
-
Lost Planet =((.

I find it overrated, nice ambiance and innovative story, along with decent gameplay (even if it's all very short), but frightening, not at all. It's just got a lot of suspence, but when you see some messed up plastic-looking junkie model screaming at you, I instead found it hilarious. It's like, he's jump out and then I'd take an axe and hit it and then you'd hear the moaning sound effect... lol... that's not convincing at all...
very fun and well worth playing though, I liked it :)
-
Lost Planet =((.
of fuck yes, overrated too, everyone just raves about it because it's set in an antarctic base and has got cool-looking monsters as if they were playing a videogame version of The Thing
but apart from that, meh third-person platforming action, TERRIBLY slow aiming controls that are just unecessarily frustrating to use (despite the adjusments one may do)... what's with moving and aiming so fucking slowly on foot at the third person and wandering around to kill some random monsters spawning from regeneration points to then destroy the spawning points like in Gauntlet? it's just dull like hell
good level design, and the mech parts are decent since it's more natural to shoot things at the third person in that context, but apart from that it's really terrible and overhyped, yet another example of people getting blinded by next-gen
-
Wind Waker
Pikmin
Metroid Prime
WRONG!
-
I don't get why people have such extremely strong negative opinions about Lost Planet. It was a good demo. No one is saying it was perfect. It would be different if that demo were released a week before the game was; instead, the full game is only coming out like 8 months after the demo. With that in mind, I think it was an extremely promising demo. Do people realize how much crap could change over that long? Most games aren't even "pulled into good shape" until the last couple months of development.
What Capcom showed of Lost Planet was pretty great, considering its place in the development cycle.
-
GTA3 and up, which is a shame, because I loved the first two.
Lumines left me with a big "buh."
Ico, as much as I wanted to love it. I still like SotC though, despite the framerate and controls.
Edit: I wouldn't call Ico "overrated tripe," but I just couldn't find it all that enjoyable.
-
I still play the Lost Planet demo regularly, just to ogle the visuals and trash mechs. It's still the most intense gaming experience I've had, and I've played a LOT of games. I can't imagine how great the final result will be.
-
Wind Waker
Pikmin
Metroid Prime
WRONG!
:elf :elf :elf
-
Phantasy Star Online
Onimusha
all Tonay Hawks game
Golden Sun
resident evil all games

Indeed, Drinky and White Man for the win. The only demos that I keep on my 360 NO MATTER WHAT are Lost Planet and now Dead Rising (but that will only last till Wednesday).
I don't get the love for Megaman games. I can see that some games are really good, but msot of them seem to be pretty crappy overall.
Oh, and Animal Crossing can suck my balls.

Fuck what you heard, GTA is people. Honestly, those three games are what gaming should be about. Fun. Despite all its flaws it still manages to be one of the most entertaining interactive electronic experiences ever produced. Don't front like it isn't. It's one of the few one player games that manages to keep the player coming back long after completion. The fun factor of those games alone warrant the praise and the high marks. Other game makers need to take note and follow suit.

GTA does things right and I can see the obvious quality of the games, but I simply don't find them fun at all, really.:-\ The missions get really fucking stupid quick, and a lot of the times I get sick of running over things with my car. The inclusion of the motorcycles was awesome, as I do have tons of fun with them, but only on the jumps that are placed in the cities.
Another thing I can't stand is effing clones the game has gotten since GTA3. I know that you'll get clones for a while after a revolutionary game is released, but most of them are so horrible and a mockery to the industry that it's sad. At least when developers were copying Mario, we got some good games out of it.
-
Lumines left me with a big "buh."
Yeah, Lumines wasn't as great as everyone was saying it was, IMO, but I just kinda attributed it to the fact that i'm not big on puzzle games.
-
Another for the Lumines its distinguished mentally-challenged give me some more challenging fare, like hexic holy shit you go boggle billy after you get 8 colors on screen. You try fucking creating one of them super black pearl more than a few times, its impossible.
I honestly have to say worst overlyhyped game for me that i bought was back on PS2 and that would be Ico. Dont get me wrong i like SOTC and Ico but its just one of those things that pissed me off. I returned it (back when you could at Gamestop) and got a new copy of Silent Hill 2 which was much more worth it.
It went something like this:
4:00pm Trade games, get Ico
4:45pm get home, open Ico
6:35pm wtf is this shit, put Ico back in case
7:30pm take Ico back to store, exchange it for SH2
7:55pm get home, enjoy SH2
4:30am stilll enjoying SH2
yeah something like that.

Yeah, but not worth 9.8's.
The game may be fun, but I've had fun with EyeToy as well. Gameplay and controls are paramount to me, and GTA doesn't take the cake in either regard. The controlling is meh, and the missions are repetitive. So boring that people instead opt to run around doing whatever they want. Is that good game design? I don't know.

Zelda
Metroid

Zelda? Ban him.

Yeah, Lumines wasn't as great as everyone was saying it was
NO! Lumines is PSP's best game so :stfu

Metal Gear Solid and the MGS series.
GTA3 and co. I actually play the gta3 games, I use to like the old gta games as well. I don't think they are horrible games, but certainly not great games. People overlook their major flaws because they get off on killing hookers and crime, and I just don't get off on that. I was dissapointed when finally playing the game, because the gameplay worked a lot better in 2d than it did in 3d. I liked some of the changes in San Andreas, the rpg elements which made a lot of the mindless pointless wandering a little less poitnless.
MGS on the other hand, I think sucks.
-
Grand Theft Auto
Final Fantasy 8/9
Fuck you pandora golden sun is the best rpg for gba. :'(
Ill think of more.
-
anything made by Nintendo.
-
Ico, SOTC, Metal Gear Solid series, Final Fantasy series, Dragon Quest series, Gran Turismo series, Metroid Prime, to name a few.

Ico, SOTC, Metal Gear Solid series, Final Fantasy series, Dragon Quest series, Gran Turismo series, Metroid Prime, to name a few.
Thanks for reminding me of the shit that is Gran Turismo. Such a boring series of games.
-
I really don't hate any games. Seriously, almost every game I've bought within the past 10 years or so was worth it . I thought Pikmin was pretty meh, though. Was that loved? Or was that Pikmin 2? Oh, and RE before RE4. But I know a lot of people share my sentiment.
I would throw Gran Turismo in there, but I really haven't played the series at all...and I played PGR and I hopelessly addicted to it for a while. So I bet I would probably enjoy GT4 too.
I don't bother with sports games anymore because it feels like the same shit every year, and I just get fucking frustrated when shit happens that I really can't control. I play games to feel like I'm in control of them.
-
Mario (and all of the trash sports games)
The sports games were only bad this generation. They were the shit on the 64. This time around... yikes.
-
a videogame version of The Thing
there is a videogame version of the thing :lol
btw- for me, the crash bandicoot series
-
Halo 1 and 2, SOTC, WW, 99% of JRPGs.
-
Actually, any review of Shenmue (1 -or- 2) that doesn't score it a 3/10 or below is overrating it.
-
yeah, as some people say redundant yearly sports installments are way overrated
what we need is a return of arcade sports gaming, 'cuz yes that's the most criminally underrated genre of gaming ever, even more than adventure gaming
NBA Jam, Baseball Stars, Ice Hockey, Blades of Steel, RC Pro-AM, Tecmo Bowl & Tecmo Super Bowl, etc etc... I could play that shit all day long... now is there anyone who genuinely favors the same Madden or NBA 2K simulators every goddamn year over these masterpieces, seriously? :P
-
Grand Theft Auto
Madden
-
I used to really dig NFL Blitz. Slugfest wasn't bad, either, as far as arcade sports go.
-
yeah NFL Blitz was a blast, but then Midway saturated the formula with unecessary installments
this needs to come back big style, people never get tired of these games, whereas playing full seasons of molasse-slow simulators and hearing Madden is just boring
-
Final Fantasy, I can't stand it. It has no decent qualities that I know of. And I don't mean to be a playstation troll, but MGS is incredibly over-rated. Hasn't changed anything in videogames.
