Title: A(n awful) History of Violence.
Post by: permutated on August 28, 2008, 11:23:40 PM
Seriously, this movie has the worst acting I've ever seen. Maybe it's the tacky dialogue that tries to bring you into the characters but they're just so boring from the outset you don't care.

I think I'm going to stop watching. Is it going to get worse or better?

Was it?

No the whole gym scene and everything before it.

Should I just stop watching?

For all the love the movie got, I personally was pretty disappointed by it. But, to each their own. You may find it redeems itself before the end.

1/2 of the dialogue sounds like it was overdubbed in a studio. This movie is hilariously amateur, not even the violence can save it.

Seriously though, it's so ridden with cliches that I really don't know how someone can watch it without rolling their eyes at least once. There are a few redeeming scenes but overall it was painfully mediocre. *OMG THE AMBIGUITY* is the only praise I ever hear for this film. Bello's bush was pretty neato at least

Then again I probably have pretty awful taste in movies, so you might want to disregard everything I say

Movie rocks, and acting outside of the kids rocks too.

There are certain movies that NEED to be seen on a theater screen, and those aren't always films with epic vistas and big explosions.  Sometimes its a film like A History of Violence where you can miss LOTS of subtle acting, the way the shot compositions plays out, and lots of other subtle shit that you just wouldn't see on a home screen.

I first saw the movie in a theater and was blown away, the 2nd time I saw it at home and was less taken with it.  I can understand somebody not digging it, but really, to call it terrible by any means is a bit of a stretch.

I don't think it was TERRIBLE but I was definitely underwhelmed. It's at least worth a viewing

I haven't seen this yet, but I would strongly recommend watching Eastern Promises.

I'm such a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow. I just realized I spent this whole thread thinking I was talking about this movie.  :dur

I didn't dig it so much when I first saw it, but it improved in my memory and I actually just bought it last week. Will rewatch soon.

It's probably just good, not excellent or anything, but at least interesting.

I love the strange, detached performances Cronenberg seems to have a knack for getting out of people.  Lynch has a similar ability.

I dig the movie a lot, but I like the third act of the comic more.  The ending to the comic is actually more (traditionally) Cronenbergian.
