MUNICH, Germany - Fish oil supplements may work slightly better than a popular cholesterol-reducing drug to help patients with chronic heart failure, according to new research released Sunday.
Chronic heart failure is a condition that occurs when the heart becomes enlarged and cannot pump blood efficiently around the body.
With few effective options for heart failure patients, the findings could give patients a potential new treatment and could change the dietary recommendations for them, said Dr. Jose Gonzalez Juanatey, a spokesman for the European Society of Cardiology, who was not connected to the research.
I actually take an Omega 3/6/9 I think it is. COMBOOOOOOOOOO
-
I already take Omega 3s, and my heart hasn't failed yet. :heartbeat
-
Well the 3/6/9 I take is all in one pill three times a day
-
you guys take it more than once a day? i'm so paranoid about overdosing i can't take more than one (different) pill every 10min
-
Good thing I dont have Chronic Heart Failure
-
Every day I take:
Daytime:
3x Omega 3/6/9 pills
1x Centrum One-A-Day
1x Magnesium Supplement (muscle tension problems)
1x Claritin
ADVIL (usually while at work, also for muscle tension problems)
Evening:
1x low dose asprin
1x Valerian Root Supplement
I used to take a lot more stuff but its best to focus on stuff proven to help with heart/cardio long-term than other stuff.
-
1x Magnesium Supplement (muscle tension problems)
Do they work?
1x Valerian Root Supplement
What does this do?
-
stretches help with the tension, magnesium SEEMS to help keep smooth muscle twitches down. I say SEEMS to cause it could also be the stretches. The opposite of Magnesium in the body is Calcium, like how Potassium is the opposite for Sodium. So if your heart rate is usually a little fast and you eat a lot of salt, eat some bananas for example. I generally take a few tums knock offs which are primarily calcium so I dont sweat taking a little extra magnesium.
Valerian is a stress/sleep aid, I take a small dose just to take the edge off at night. I've never had Valerian actually knock me out to sleep tho. Chamomile Tea is great too.

You really can't overdose on essential fatty acids.
-
i just ate a jimmy dean breakfast bowl which has 20 grams of fat
-
I've never heard of a case where anyone died from too much EFAs.
As for me, I take 6 x 1000mg Omega 3-6-9 capsules daily.
-
I take a multi-vitamin when I can remember to
-
Oh, I didn't realize everyone was posting their daily supplement list:
1 x Multivitamin
6 x 1000 mg Omega 3-6-9 capsules
2 x ALR Zero Stim (non-caffeinated stimulant)
2 x ALR XT (see above)
3 x NOW Foods ZMA (sleep aid)
2 x NOW 100mg 5-HTP (sleep aid)
2 x ALR Venom Lean Dreams (sleep aid)
-
Just a warning about 5-HTP, it can cause a very mild form of a serotonin storm (imagine a 2-4 hour panic attack), especially if taken with anti-depressants. For some people it may be better to just skip a few steps in the chemical process and take melatonin for sleep.

Great, now I know what to avoid.

Also...I wish Malek would go back to his old name. "Male"? :(
It's one letter.
-
wtf? I'm not calling you male.
-
I figure since man has survived for thousands of years without this stuff, I will continue not taking them.
-
I'm not eating anything.
-

You'll call me "male" and you'll like it.
-
Maleh
-

Man used to not eat cheeseburgers and instead ate lots of fish, and men also used to live to the age of 30. Dont be a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.

MAF what kind of affect do the Omega 3s have on you? Any discernable difference?
-
Not that Ive noticed. Omega 3 primarily supports healthy fats in the body and the reduces the chance of your arterial walls going rigid as you get older iirc. Anyone who says they 'feel' omega 3s work is lying, since cardiovascular problems up until he very late stages are almost entirely asymptomatic. I think of all the things ive done recently that have produced a difference in how I feel, its been quitting coffee.
There's been talk of Omega 3's supporting both mood and the later stages of digestion but I can't say if thats true or not from what I've experienced.
-
Most supplements are preventative. Making sure your body gets what it needs so it doesn't break down any faster.
-
Tell me about the quitting coffee. I have a terrible habit with it and suspect it (and caffeine in general) is more of a hindrance than a help in my daily life.
-
Raised blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia, withdrawl symptoms without it, water retention (which leads to the higher blood pressure)-- but we're talking people who drink a fair bit.
Depending on a persons lifestyle caffiene is either a crutch or it isnt. Im out of the house for 10-12 hours a day and up pretty early, so it was a crutch for me. Granted I dont have the spring in my step that I used to in the mornings, but I feel better all around now that ive quit.
*I still drink 1-2 cups of a black tea during the day, but most of the time its herbal stuff or green teas.
-
Id wait until you can afford a few days of withdrawl
-
I drink 3 or 4 cups of coffee during the day. Add that to the 2 or 3 Red Bull (I know, I know) that I consume and we are talking major crash in the afternoon. It is so bad that I sleep terribly (waking up 3 or 4 times during the night) and the only time I even feel half way normal is in the mornings BEFORE I drink coffee.....it is just so damned hard not to have something to motivate myself :'(
-
Yeah thats a lot of caffiene. Might try dialing it back to 2 cups of coffee a day and a redbull
-
Now if I can just quit smoking...maybe I will actually feel good when I wake up.
-
yeah, try and quit one thing at a time ;)

Wow...you must either be really skinny or really fat. I started taking hot rox for the first time this week to help me cut another 10 or so pounds, but all it seems to do is make me jittery and compensate by eating more. I'll try it for a little while longer, but if I don't see any results I'll just go strictly diet + exercise. The natural approach has gotten me down to about 198 from 225 in the past year, but the rest of the lbs i wanna lose are being a lot more difficult.
Also...I wish Malek would go back to his old name. "Male"? :(
It isn't that much if you think about it. The last three are sleep aids since without them, I'm lucky to get more than 4 hours of sleep at night. I exercise with a lot of intensity for an hour and I don't ever have anything with caffeine. Yet I still have trouble sleeping so well, I need something.
