Looks better in motion than it does in screen shots. The tutorial is distinguished mentally-challenged fellow dumb. More as I play. Presentation is PowerPoint bad, but the stylus controls are smooth as hell. A little sluggish, but they work well.
No romancing mini-games, thank god.
The tutorials are mandatory and ATROCIOUS, but once you get past them it's pretty fun. Essentially just VP1 with stylus controls and some streamlining. Which is a good thing.

You can direct pinatas to move somewhere directly?

Yes, thank god. And they'll do whatever you say, so you can direct them to eat something or mate with someone very easily.
This is incredibly fun, I can already tell this is going to be a huge time sink

that's not vp1! this is the sims with pinatas! boycott!

Haha. It kind of feels like it, but all the VP shit is here.
It really is just a portable VP. The only thing that sucks is the watering can. It's too easy to overwater, things need a lot of water and the watering can they give you at the get-go holds about 6 ounces of H20. Thankfully you can upgrade pretty quick.
-
It seems like everything moves fast. I'm about 90 minutes in and I got my first size upgrade. But these mandatory "Episodes" are fucking awful.

I don't really know what to do, why aren't my pinatas mating? MATE DAMNIT.
Edit: Two minutes later, they mated :hump

Just drag them together when they have the hearts over their head. They'll mate. OR ELSE.
-
Yeah, I was confused because I thought I had all the mating requirements set but no hearts. Figured it out though, it's all good.
My first prolonged VP experience, really addicting.

This really IS VP1 on DS :lol
It's so much better here too!

Playing VP2 today, I wished it was as smooth as VP:DS.

I'm going to be buying stuff in a minute, should I buy this?

If you liked VP1, this is a great stream-lined version opf that game. If you've never played VP, I think you'll like this if you like sim-strategy games ala Tycoon. If you hate VP, stay away, this won't change your mind.

i've never played viva pinata, but it looks fun. i was thinking of buying the ds version for my 13 year old cousin, would she like it? she's not much of a gamer, and only likes things like mario kart. it is too complicated?

It'd be great for her. Like I said, it's really streamlined. It gets rid of a lot of the hectic micro-managment of VP and really concentrates on the core gameplay strengths.

would you recommend it over animal crossing: ww? thinking of getting that for her, but i'm not sure which is the better game.

I hated Animal Crossing. So slow. So very slow. But lots of people enjoy it, so maybe she will. I prefer VP, it moves a little faster and is a little more exciting.
