Hit the mountains on your quest to become the next snowboarding phenomenon in Stoked, the open-world, back country snowboarding experience
I'm calling it now, this(the new skate.) is going to be better than Shaun White Snowboarding(the new THPS). the trailer alone makes all the shaun white media look corny.

HD trailer:

a game called 'stoked' from a developer called 'bongfish'
hm
yeah, this is totally coming out polished and on schedule

poor dopefish :(
-
That looked pretty amazing. We need a decent HD snowboarding game. The genre just disappeared for a while for some reason.
-
While I was watching this, I expected to see an EA Logo.
Since you've opened the door, I'll commence wining about the lack of SSX5: :'(
Stoked looks pretty barren at this point, but I guess we'll see. Maybe this will fill the Amped void.
-
i bought this tonight
just finished the tutorials FINALLY
so yeah its pretty much goty 2009
and with a pricetag of only $40
buy it distinguished effete fellows
-
ok so this is like the best game ever
or at the very least one of the best games this gen
here are some bullet points as to why it think this is:
- controls like skate with some minor tweaks which actually makes it less frustrating to play
- stoked is actually more fun than skate, with bigger jumps and no constant pushing required
- the game is all top of the mountain backcountry, a fact which hasn't been well represented in trailers or reviews, there are no ski lifts here, everything is done by helicopter
- this game was made by snowboarders, for snowboarders, for that reason it may turn some people off, but also due to that reason it is the most legitimate and deep snowboarding sim ever made. corked spins like irl are hard to learn but rewarding to pull off. theres nothing quite like a big ol corked out spin off a natural lip in the backcountry. as you unlock mountains a helicopter ride takes place that introduces you to the mountain with terrain layouts and technical jargon
- the bloom in this game is absolutely incredible. some of the best i've ever seen, rivaling even mirrors edge, seeing the sun bounce off the snow after coming out of the shade of the trees is beautiful
- the game has a plethora of unlockables, of which i have only scratched the surface
- like skate, it's very pop in pop out, go on a run for 10 minutes before you go to bed, maybe finish a challenge or two (which present themselves as you travel down the mountainside), whatever
tl;dr: if stoked had snowboard parks with man made jumps and rails it could easily replace amped 2 as the de facto snowboarding game. EASILY.
-
I looked at the achievements. Seem pretty straightforward. I will consider this
-
so there's no rails or jumps or anything? just mountains?
wish it was released here :auscry
-
there's "rails" as in natural logs or downed trees
maybe the odd stone fence or cabin roof
you can even jib boulders if they're covered w/ snow/ice
-
how populated are the mountains? i liked the feeling of being isolated at the top of a mountain but it gradually getting more populated as you get to the bottom.
this is starting to make me miss amped. are amped 1+2 BC yet?
-
theres nobody else on the mountain but you, the runs eventually hit a valley or plateau like irl
like i said earlier, if the devs embraced the whole mountain this would be a better game than amped
-
empty mountains :( i loved amped so much
sounds fucking awesome still.
-
Dammit, no PAL release and NTSC version is region locked?
WTF.
-
now that i think about it there are people that cheer you on around challenge markers, but you dont see them that often

Plan to grab this as soon as (if) my Blockbuster gets it.

I wish I could get into realistic games. I play Skate and the graphics are great and it's cool and all but it takes a lot of effort to do like a simple realistic skating move and I just don't feel any satisfaction pulling it off because it's so....normal. I used to be a huge Tony Hawk guy and it felt so satisfying stringing together 30 part combos while doing 500 foot jumps onto telephone wires and etc... and you land it and get a billion points and win. Same with SSX. Doing all the combos and jumping from one rail to another with huge drops in the middle while doing a million spins to get crazy score bonus was awesomely satisfying. They were almost like Devil May Cry where it was all about combo variety and pulling them off for points.
So then I try to play realistic sports games where it's like "jump over a fence while doing 1 grab" and it's just..... -_- But since the "extreme" sports games are now dead since Tony Hawk has been shit after American Wasteland and there's no SSX, it's like there's no choice. You either learn to love realism or you just don't play Skate/Snowboard games anymore :\
-
Project 8 was pretty good, Bebpo.
-
Give Amped 3 a try Bebpo if you haven't. It's sort of inbetween the realistic Sim that Amped 2 was and the craziness of SSX.

Actually I loved Amped 2. It had enough combo scoring and cool jumps that I could get into it. But I skipped Amped 3 because of all the XXXtreme direction they went with it. If the gameplay is there though I guess I could give it a try until EA finally gets around to announcing a new SSX.
Project 8 was pretty good, Bebpo.
Unfortunately I bought the PS3 version which ran at like 10fps and so I really didn't like it. Maybe if I see the X360 version in a $1 bin somewhere one day I'll give it another shot.
-
Amped 3 isn't really that "XXXtreme". It has a really funny story wrapped around pretty familiar gameplay. It's much easier than Amped 2 though
-
I'm completely stunned to see anything positive about this game. I watched the trailer movie earlier this year and thought it would suck. The trailer looked barren and lacked any kind of allure.
-
you were wrong
how wrong so wrong
let me guess, you never snowboarded a day in your life
-
bu bu bu euro-bore
bye *poof*
Goddamn yanks. >:(

Yeah, I still liked Amped 3 gameplay. It just seemed to have characters that were a bit more out there like SSX.

it all comes down to if you ever skated/snowboarded
when i ued to sit on the couch and watch my friends play ssx i couldn't care less, when i played skate for the 1st time it was like an epiphany
watching someone who was never a skateboarder play skate is one of the most painful experiences ive ever had to endure in my lifetime
-

Amped 2 certainly is. Haven't tested the original.
-
Only $30 new at GS. I better trade in Skate 2 then
-
you were wrong

I have... I haven't been out in ages, but I've snowboarded and enjoyed it. MrSingh keeps threatening me with winter trips, and I keep treading water, thinking about his delicious buttcakes until the trip date has passed me by.
No, my greater crime is that I downloaded a trailer, determined that the game would not be fun... based on the trailer. That's idiocy! That's like... like, the converse of Tokyo Game Show awarding Game of the Show to Metal Gear Solid 4 though there was only a movie, and no playable. Crazy!
-
that early trailer, while capturing the vibe of the game pretty well, does an extremely poor job of capturing the feel of the runs and the environment. although i dont see how a snowboarder/former snowboarder couldnt be excited by that debut trailer, it sure isnt the be all end all representation of the final product
-
Explaining that's easy! Without knowing that the game is entirely open world, which isn't mentioned in the trailer, the terrain is unforgivably sparse. Open-world games are almost automatically going to be less detailed than fixed-path games like SSX.
However, what the hell was that offroad game recently announced? Fuel? They're also going open-world, but their tech makes everything look overwhelmingly sexy.
-
go watch some more gametrailers videos before you pass judgment. the terrain is as "sparse" as you'd find in real life backcountry. theres constant rolls, sheer ciffs, ice patches, the occasional cabin, downed trees, excetera. even the runs themselves can look completey different given the time of day/weather/type of snowpack. its wonderfully diverse
-
wow this game really gets going once you start getting sponsored after
accumulating grinding 66 fame points
they really should have given you the option to unlock everything right after buying it a la skate 2 dlc
-
i was wrong. there are snowboard parks itg. some of the later contests on the last 2 mountains have metal rails and assorted kickers
stoked > amped confirmed
-
oh shit. HURRY UP PAL RELEASE
whats the online mode like?
-
dunno, i dont have ethernet access in my room :( :'( :gloomy
-
lol ethernet
-
Amped 1 is the best. :heart
-
I prefered 2 but it's like splitting hairs :heart
-
$10 at Toys R Us
Going to get one right now
-
:hyper
-
Picked up the last two... one to flip
-
This game is tight. I just got an achievement for finding the cross on the summit, and I signed a Guestbook. It contains a log of every Gamertag that's signed the same book. Very neat.
-
i was just about to come in here & ask you what you thought :)
-
that smiley emote is kinda creepy
can we get a less creepy version?
what mountain did you find that guestbook @?
-
It's on Almirante something. You go to Summit, then once you land, hold back so you stop, then walk up the mountain and you should see the cross. Hop back on your board, then press X to sign

thats the best achievement ive ever seen, there should be more things like that
-
Also, this song is so tight

-
it must only register if youre signed into xbl
-
The achievement? I guess, it doesnt say "have to be on XBL"
-
yep i waddled up to it and nothing
o well i need 2 dl demos anyway
-
You have to get back on your board to sign it
-
oh
fml
-
I just destroyed everybody's score on the leaderboard for Almirante Nieto "Downhill" and got an achievement for having my sponsor take over the mountain. Shame the leaderboards are reset weekly (which is GENIUS why dont other developers do this for shitty ass leaderboard achievements)

Moar Stoked next month
-
FUCK standard edition out this week in australia
-
:rofl
I'll wait for the Big Air edition.
-
Big Air Edition has some Euro mountain on it. Maybe that's what we're getting :(
Looks like AU version isn't out till November now anyway?
-
oh so they amped out my backcountry baby?
MAINSTREAM'D
-
:bow AMPED :bow2
-
Stoked, which has the highest Metacritic score of any advanced-generation snowboarding game,
silly pr, boasting about a 69 metascore. note the ADVANCED-GENERATION so they can't get burned by the wii version of shaun white.
-
shaun white isnt a snowboarding game. collecting coins lol

vampiric. i just think the pr is poorly written and misleading (like much pr), i refuse to play either of these shitty snowboarding games. will wait for true next-gen ssx or 1080. carry on.

I think the UK version will be the way to go - the original is about AUD$35 now so the Aussie release can bugger off.
-
Really only AU$35 from the UK?
-
Here is where I saw it: http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/xbox-360/stoked/10062555.html
I've been buying lots from them lately. Postage 2.35 pounds per item and nice and fast. Usually takes less than a week and never been more than about 9 days.
-
i really wish this stuff was in the game
you know
when i spent $40 on it the first time
-
it will be $10 soon enough.
-
Its only been out a few weeks here in Aus and is already $50 so I got it.
Fucking annoying at first - "do a trick and beat this score, but you cant beat it by doing the trick alone, you need to get your combo up first hurrr". Once you work that out its piss easy though.
The grinding for fame seems like it will be annoying. And the first pro challenge is a cunt.
