Well, I guess now people who've played the first game and have no idea the sequel got renamed wont have anything to worry about.
-
I was fine with just Project Origin. It made me feel more exclusive for knowing this was the true sequel while all the suckers would have bought the crap fake one.
-
I am perhaps the biggest FEAR fanboy you could meet, but I have much trepidation about FEAR2.
Consider:
- Where is the PC version? They've shown the game a few times, and every time it's the Goddamn Xbox code. I can't play FEAR on a Goddamn Xbox.
- When they do show the game, I guess it's pretty focused on driving a big robot around and spamming missiles? That's certainly not what gave me a game boner for the first FEAR.
- Monolith's track record has been tarnished heavily by the execrable Condemned 2. They are on notice.
- What is with the friggen distinguished mentally-challenged UI? Like I'm playing some sort of RPG or arcade game. Congratulations, you picked up a clip! In case you didn't notice, I will now print CLIP in giant letters in the middle of your screen, and then slowly slide them off to the huge ammo HUD down to your right.
- WHERE IS THE DAMN PC VERSION.
I am gonna be one heart broken dude if they botch FEAR2.
-
Condemned 2 rocked, don't be a hater draft.
-
Condemned 2 was a piece of shit. Too many gun levels, distinguished mentally-challenged magic powers that you MUST use to get through the last level, stupid boss fights, not really scary at all except for the first couple levels, most ridiculous story of any game I've played in the last couple years. The list goes on and on.
Combat system was a nice improvement, and I have much respect for a game that deals with alcoholism by beating it to death, but otherwise a total turd.
-
I agree with Draft here on Condemned 2. And if anyone else ever got a chance to try out multiplayer, it is probably the worst multiplayer I have played since The Darkness.

It was a dark super hero origins story, it was awesome. The powers were cool, the action was great, the story was cool, the bosses were cool, that thing chasing you in the boat was scary as shit.
I loved it. Hated condemned 1 though, condemned 1 was a pointless piece of shit.
-
Yeah wow a dark super hero origin story. You fudge packer. What did you like best, throwing flaming bottles at the crazy ringmaster or throwing flaming dolls at the crazy lolita.
-
The story was awful. It revolves around people who yell at other people.
The first condemned at least had a cool story about catching a serial killer who was going after other serial killers.

Condemned 1 was about what? I mean i was going around beating bums with wood boards, and axes, yay. So limited so crappy.

Right, the premise was good, but that was it. I think the story in condemned 2 was much more developed, i liked it.

:bow F.E.A.R. :bow2
"FLASHLIGHT!!!"

Just like every other former PC game, FEAR 2 will be consolized with 360 platform first and foremost. PC and PS3 market after.
BTW, I hate what has happened to Monolith. Why do they have to keep on making these dark and dreary games? Get the NOLF license back and give me another one! In this day and age a chick lead for a FPS would sell huge. NOLF and NOLF 2 were ahead of their time.

Condemned 2 was a piece of shit.
Monolith has been turned to the console-side. Where's my No One Lives Forever 3, you dicks? :'(
-
uh... do i see condemned 2 love in this thread? welcome to my ignore list
i DL'd FEAR for PC, havent got to it yet
-
I loved Condemned 1 AND Condemned 2. Condemned 2 had insanely awesome melee combat and the story didn't bother me. That doll bitch was fuck-awesome. I didn't play much multiplayer, but the mode where it was bums vs cops finding the evidence was great as long as people communicated.
Please don't ignore me demi. :(
-
Yeah guys, fuck Monolith for wanting tons of money.
Wanting and getting are two very different things. Condemned 2 was a mega bomb. Fitting fate for such a piece of shit.
So too will FEAR2 bomb if Monolith forsakes their PC fanbase. You have seen what happened to UT3. There is precedent.

The PC version exists.
Consoles are just where the money is.

The combat in F.E.A.R. kicked much ass, but it failed to sell the whole supernatural angle (well, except for the slow-mo ability), and I'm not sure if that's going to be any different now. Condemned 2 suggests that it's just going to get more ridiculous, so hey... the combat had better be shit hot.

My main problem with fear is that every room in the game feels so boxy. Like a big box with random furniture around. I don't know how to explain it, but they don't feel like real rooms. Or something.
As far as the story, who the fuck plays an FPS for the story?

I wish I could play an FPS for the story, but there aren't many that are up to snuff. With F.E.A.R. though, it's pushed in your face around every bend, with disruptive visions and various baseline "look, it horror!" events. M.E.H. It very nearly tainted the combat experience.

The engine was impressive at the time but the limited assets were very noticeable. Hopefully, they got a bigger budget this time since the game will be simultaneously released on consoles.
-
I thought the sequel should have been called Secret Combat Alliance Rodimus Yellow
or S.C.A.R.Y.

It looked nice, but I don't think the engine was that impressive. It performed about half as well as it should have, for what it looked like. It's like 3 years old and it's still kinda difficult to lock at 60fps with everything on.
