While I think Little Big Planet, Gears of War 2, and Fable 2 will all be in the running and probably more likely contenders for Game of the Year for me, PURE has set the bar for everyone so far.
Its just amazing. Totally fucking amazing. I spent 6 hours yesterday playing it. About half the time in World Tour unlocking more parts and tracks, and the rest of the time playing online with friends. We just never got tired of it. Its one of those games where I openly hoot and holler at the screen because something happened that blew my mind, or was a close call or something.
Wipeout HD has a lot to compete with.
-
That's a tough call. Probably Tales of Vesperia for me. Persona 4 isnt out yet tho.
-
Prob RB2 for me.
-
i need to go pick my copy of PURE up
goty is probably tales of vesperia or disgaea 3. or rengoku 2 again, for the third year running.
-
Give Disney the Seek and Destroy license!
That being said, its pretty clear Disney is becoming the new MTV. Its all edgy cool music xxxtremee omg.
-
It's a fucked up generation which allows something as drab as Pure to shine brightly. SSX, please. :(
-
So Pure actually is enjoyable after playing it for a while? I might pick it up cheap or get the eventual sequel.
I am probably forgetting other games this year, but MGS4 or Vesperia are probably the best games this year for me so far.

I am still waiting for a new SSX after it was teased in Burnout. All these shitty snowboarding games like that shitty carrot top one and that new shitty looking stoked one or whatever look boring. Only EA can save this boring state of next gen snowboarding games.
-
It was between renting this and Mercs 2.
Why the fuck did I rent Mercs 2? Such a fucking shitty game.
Are you the guy that said Mercs2 was hard? lol
-
MGS4 is default.
The real question is who's runner up in my book, and that's a heated battle between Burnout, RB2 and LBP will become a new challenger when it comes out.
Dead Space and DMC4 will be battling for 3rd probably.
-
Deadspace looks so awesome
-
I think the big titles coming out for the rest of this year that could be incredibly awesome are Dead Space, Persona 4, LBP, Mirror's Edge, and maybe Gears 2 or Prince of Persia. Fallout 3 and Fable 2 should be good, but I don't expect either to be relaly awesome or anything like that.
-
Persona 4.
-
Rock Band 2 by a country mile for me with Galciv 2: Twilight of the Arnor in 2nd place.
-
I don't have a pick yet. Haven't played a game that deserves it yet.
-
N+

Too Human
-
Devil May Cry 4

I played a lot of games this year i think, certainly played all the big ones so far, but i'm still waiting for that one, that steals the year to me.
GOW1 did it, then Bioshock did it, this year, i've no idea, but there are still a lot of coming that are ready to give a crack at it.
-
Vesperia and Ninja Gaiden II so far.
-
MGS4 for me so far and I doubt anything will topple it.
-
Braid
-
Ctrl +F "Rearmed" WAT
Bionic Commando: Rearmed.
-
I'm not sure if I bought a single game this year outside of xbla arcade, NG2 and smash bros. what a shitty year.
-
The World Ends with You.

That's the Wii for you :rofl
-
Because I've actually played these games, it will come down to Gears of War 2 and Dead Space - for me, personally.
-
considering time invested BC: Rearmed is probably my goty
I have high hopes for Gears 2.
I wish I could play Vesperia :'(
-
based on enjoyable time spent, tales of vesperia
I figure gears of war 2 and left 4 dead will take over in the long run though
-
gonna have to go with Bionic Commando also. this year sucked so far, but i wish i had money to try more games anyway. :(
-
I'm surprised nobody has said Grand Theft Auto 4 yet. It was definitely a contender for me, as it was an epic game experience with a great multiplayer offering. Pure just clicks with me in a way only comparable to quarter munchers back in the day like Daytona, Sega GT, and console hits like Wipeout XL and SSX. Its that elusive grand slam that comes out of nowhere.
-
No one is saying it because it's not even that great as a GTA game, let alone being good enough for GOTY contention.
-
Mega Man 9 is probably gonna be my pick... if not then Brawl or The World Ends With You. Possibly Vesperia, once I finally play that.
-
Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories.
Or Persona 4. Or Mirror's Edge. Sure as hell won't be DMC4, Lost Odyssey, or Tales of Vesperia (the only games I've played this year).
-
Dood, Midnight Club: Los Angeles doesn't come out for another month...

All GOTY discussion ends October 27th. :-*

This was supposed to be the year of the forever, but I've been sorda disappointed by everything.
--Ninja Gaiden 2 is mediocre (for me)
--DMC4 on the 360 was so-so
--DMC4 PC is a pretty big improvement over the console versions, LDK mode is amazing, but not exactly a quantum leap over 3:SE
--MGS4 is great but a real letdown in some respects (story wise, some gameplay sections)
--Castle Crashers is buggy, no online
--I couldn't get into SCIV
--GTAIV...well, it's GTA. I loved it for 20 hours and now I never need to play it again. Like all GTAs.
--There are more games I've been let down by, just can't think of them all right now. lol
So far, the Witcher:EE (technically a 2007 game) and Crysis:Warhead are blowing me away. Partially because I didn't have huge expectations for either game and because setting up massive explosions and traps for HNK is so goddamn fun. I played 20 hours of the Witcher last year too, so I knew it would be even more awesome.
oh and hello again EB, it has been a while.

I'm having that same problem. MGS4 didn't live up to the hype, GTAIV was pretty good, but I lost interest, Castle Crashers isn't bad at all, but I'm waiting for the patch, and Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli is a pretty good sim, but I'm waiting for the Trophy patch before going hardcore into it. And SCIV has way too many throw-the-joystick-at-the-TV moments to make it enjoyable...
-
PURE is my pick for GOTY so far as well, even though I don't have it yet. I've preordered today - won't be out until mid next week in Australia. :'(
-
Forgot to mention that I played and beat MGS4 this year too. I totally forgot about it. That's how bad it was. MGS 1, 2 (except for the crazy A.I. Rose and Colonel shit. WTF at the 10 minute codec cutscene), and 3 >>>>>>> 4.
-

lol

I can't wait for Midnight Club Los Angeles, but so far my GOTY is Rock Band if I can count that I only started playing it this year, and GTA4 if it has to have been released this year.
But GOTYs for me are frequently everyone else's old news. I have friends that joke I should get around to playing Half Life 1; I guess the punchline is that I've still not played HL2.
