I'm teaching myself how to use photoshop, and it's pretty fun so far, but I'm also interested in making my own GIF's. Any program recommendations and tips?

i used imageready but its not perfect
they dropped its development as of cs3 I think though

Yeah, Imageready is what I use.

I think you can still create GIFs with CS3 though. Now sure how, but I'm pretty sure I've read that.

They stopped with Imageready because all the functionality is already in CS3.
File > Import > Video Frames to Layers, to get a get a video into gif form.
Then Window > Animation to see the typical Imageready animation window.
From there it's the same as old Imageready.

In addition to that, if you want to edit animated GIFs or non-AVI/MOV video files (they don't show up normally on the Import > Video frames to layers dialog), type in an asterisk (*) in the File Name field and it'll allow you to choose other files.
And yeah, I use Photoshop CS3. :-*

Interesting. Thanks for all the replies, guys. I have Photoshop Elements which came with my tablet I purchased, but I don't know if it has any GIF making abilities. I haven't seen anything too obvious, but I'll have to investigate further.

I couldn't get this to fucking work back when I tried it. I just use Imageready CS2.

I dont think elements has imageready
you can get a free trial of photoshop on adobes site, imageready comes with it and I guess now its a part of it in cs3, says the guys above
