So don't bother if you're a member of the J-Bore crew. Thanks for continuing to make my XBL experience a shitty one, MS!

WWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTT???????????????
If I have an American account on a J hardware unit?
-
You're screwed. I am using a U.S. account on J-hardware too. No kicking ass and chewing bubblegum this time around. :'(
-
it comes up with "the content is not allowed in this region" ?
or it allows you to download it and the screws you?
I can't download it. It says "This item is not available from your current location." Even more fucked up is a guy on GAF in Europe with a U.S. account said he was able to get it. :-\
-
same thing happened with Doom.
-

"Fuck-a-John-Wayne." That's stupid; usually that shit seems to be in place where they'd be in breach of distribution contracts, I think. But did Duke ever even come out here in Japan?
-
I don't think Duke ever came out in Japan, no.
same thing happened with Doom.
I got Doom over here no problem.
-
Sucks, but maybe they'll open it up later. It's based on you IP I think, not hardware.
I can almost guarantee this is a publisher issue and not a MS one.
-
strange, pretty sure doom was ip locked for me.
will check it later.

MS is the publisher. :'(

Developer: 3D Realms
Publisher: 3D Realms
-
Huh, I read that they had some MS exclusive deal and that MS is publishing it.

Good jon, so instead of simply not offering it on the Japanese Marketplace, make sure that it's region lock so people with American consoles living in Japan can't download it either.

so distinguished mentally-challenged
how does Duke 3D get "banned" but stuff much worse is sold at retail? ???
-
The difference is that Z games are sold at retail. I dunno how underage buying goes here, but Japan has some really bizarre laws with this sort of thing. I guess since there's no way to verify your age, they won't give you the option to get it. Still, region locking it seems like overkill. I wonder who made the decision, 3D Realms in fear of backlash, MS for having to follow some sort of law, or CERO forcing it upon them.
-
It's banned and region-locked in Germany too.
-
How about you leave that shit Country?
:japancry
Yes, I CALL FORTH ALL J-BORES. WE MUST LEAVE THIS LAND IN PROTEST. MICROSOFT SHALL FEEL OUR COMBINED MIGHT AS 360 LIVE SALES DROP TO NOTHING AND PLEAD FOR OUR RETURN.
DURING THE INTERIM WE SHALL LIVE IN GERMAN-- AW FUCK
-
so duke3d gets banned in japan because of a rating and this is somehow msfts fault? yeah okay.

Same reason why tubgirl's vagina is censored
-
HUAHUAHUA
Thanks for reminding me Duke was out today. CANT WAIT TO PLAY IT
-
Guess I'll download it onto the HDD when I'm back home at Xmas. Buggers.
It might not work when you come back though. :-\
Before MS region-locked TV shows and movies, I purchased a few TV shows. Then after the great locking of 2006, I was unable to watch them despite having purchased them.
-
Guess I'll just have to buy Wipeout instead on the console that doesn't enforce region locking like a bunch of simps
-
Good grief. That IP lock's inane in general, but this is really amazing. Every time MS flexes that IP address region lock, I worry about my gaming future being flushed into some DRM-laden, region-locked cesspit.
I mean, if you've got a US console, a US account, and US MS points, what is the big-ass-deal?
I guess the only thing more ridiculous is when the movie trailers on Marketplace get region locked, even though the themes and gamerpics are not, and the trailer itself can be viewed world-fucking-wide on any PC with an internet connection. Whisky. Tango. Foxtrot.
-
Why region lock dlc? thats bizzaaaaaaare
-
I don't even understand why anyone is excited for this. I mean, there are much better ways to play Duke 3D on the PC if you REALLY have to have it. I suppose the 8-player CO-OP is a cool feature, but is that really enough? They seemingly did a poor job porting the game. Even the original release supported resolutions up to 800x600 (in DOS). Why render the game at such a low resolution? I don't get it.
-
man this game is amazing. i'm sure glad i dont live in clinkydink japan. i would hate to miss out on this gem of a game.
anyone want to do co-op? oh i'm sorry. americans only.
-
Japan's OK - for every little thing MS denies us, we get 100 items of niche-targeted fetish porn.
-
Clearly they're just making TOO MUCH MONEYS from the Japan Marketplace and need to scale it back until their infrastructure can cope with the influx of yen.
-
the longer i leave the game running the longer i boast my superiority over the moon language race
-
I guess that the 10 sales they would have gotten from Japan wasn't enough incentive to get in trouble with CERO.
Goddamn you people are dumb, I'm sure that M$$$$ isn't for region locking, but you apparently can't put a Z game up and have it downloadable in Japan, probably some sort of law. Maybe region-locking was overkill, but for all we know that had to happen. PSN can't be compared because there aren't any games that would be banned, and their video store is region locked too.
This is the future, like it or not. Years ago you could view anything from any site, these days all sorts of shit is IP locked. There are a lot of streaming videos that you can't view unless you're in the States, some music sites won't work, some sites actually ban certain country IPs. I definitely don't agree with it, but people will always want to control the Internet. I'm sure we'll be looking at the "good old days" when you could look at anything on the Internet without the majority of content being IP restricted.

Don't conflate 'irate' with 'dumb'...

It's great that you have already given up while the fight is still going on. The media companies in the US are waging a PR war on Fair Use and other means of participating and responding to arts and entertainment in our culture. They want to keep it all locked up and dole it out in little chunks, packaged and repackaged, under an endless copyright.
Right now I've got stuff on my 360 which I paid for, that I can't access unless I'm logged in to XBL. Ass-clownery.

Use the DRM tool on Microsoft's website.
