Title: Hrm.. Excel and macros
Post by: Ecrofirt on September 25, 2008, 01:03:46 AM
I've run into sort-of a weird situation at work.

One of our professors plans on having his students open a bunch of Lotus .wks files and do a project. Problem is, some security policy/Windows update is blocking the files from being opened in Excel (and it's not Office 2003 SP3).

That's not the big problem, though. I've converted the files to.xls files at my house, and I can confirm that they all open without an issue and that they all contain macros. However, when I open the .xls files at work, there's no macros in them at all. Something is silently stripping the macros from the files, and I don't know what it is.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I've turned macro security down to 'Low' in Excel, but it doesn't make a difference. The files just won't show their macros at all.

Just bumping the thread. I'm still trying to figure out wtf a macro in Excel is.  :-[

As you explain it, it sounds like a settings issue. Compatability, or other technical problems usually create messages. I'll look around in excel if there is a option to block al macro's.
