Most rumors make it seem like it'll be a grittier (compared to Halo 3) 3rd person shooter, based around the ODST marines (Helljumpers). The SuperIntendent character seems to be a human maintenance AI gone rampant. Hints about squads and teams.
1. We know that this game is set within the Halo universe.
2. We know that it involves humanity at war with another force (presumably the Covenant, as Bungie has typically refrained from promoting any "vs. human combat" in the Halo games)
3. We know that a metropolitan custodial AI called "The Superintendent" has evidently gone rampant, possibly due to some data corruption at its core by the game's antagonist.
4. We know that there's a metropolitan emergency of some sort, evidently related to the war.
5. We know that someone, presumably from the Section One division of the Office of Naval Intelligence, has requested a special team be sent down to resolve the issue.
6. We also have noticed that the rumors about a squad-based tactical game based on the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) or Helljumpers, has seemed more and more likely through the filters of these messages.

I've always wanted a 3rd person Halo shooter, but then with the chief or a spartan as lead...I hope it's closer to gears (but more open) than ghost recon. Which it'll likely will be since a Ghost Recon type game limits the fanbase too much, needs to sell millions.
From a human perspective hose elites, hunters, brutes and even grunts will look gigantic.
-
Yep, all signs point to this being in the Halo universe: the iconography and imagery of the teasing, references to UNSC in the text, rampant AI (although this seems to be a staple for all Bungie games)
-
So it'll be Myth:But With Halo Dudes
The only way I could be less interested is if they shoehorned the Nascar license in there somehow.
-
WTF are you talking about, they aren't making any RTS >:(
squads, teams, Full Spectrum Halo, or some shit. I dunno.
To be entirely honest, real time strategy was never my thing. I do turn based games only (Jagged Alliance fo life). It was my understanding that Myth was more about commanding small units rather then whole armies, or am I mistaken?
-
That pic is from Halo 3.
-
Hopefully this'll be the Star Wars: Republic Commando of the Halo franchise

U r teh stupid. A full spectrum warrior like game doesn't have the broad appeal and accessibility a Bungie game would need to have.
-
probably halo 3 expansion.

Yes, they made that in a 10 months. They've been working on this long before they broke from MS (at least since they hired the Red Storm guy as design lead). They're working on a second project too. You should be smarter with such a hot girlfriend.
-
yes. more pimps at sea
-
A squad based shooter could be interesting and would certainly be more interesting than another FPS Halo in the same style as the previous 3. Also, this viral hint crap is getting stale with Bungie. They should announce the game already and stop with all the vagueness that eventually leads to failed expectations and time wasted by those who actually tried to decode it.
-
Boring. I was hoping Bungie might do something new, or at least revisit some of the awesome things they did before Halo.
-
If they have you fighting elites instead of shitty brutes, grunts and flood, then I wouldn't mind the Halo universe.
-

Agreed, I'm sick of this viral marketing crap... especially since I'm too jaded and don't have enough time to care to puzzle together stuff or follow along with your viral marketing campaign... just show us the game.

You son of a bitch.
Another Myth game would be incredible.
-
Are they releasing it in a few hours, too? If not, who cares.

So... it's a Halo 3 expansion? :lol
-
Nice shit teaser. Shouldn't they have like a whole new game out by now?
-
lollll
-
WTF? Halo 3 getting a cartoon graphics overhaul?
-
So uh, Mythic map pack? lol
-
That's harldy what I call an unveiling. :-\
-
WTF was that shit? jesus christ
-
More questions than answers indeed...
-
That's hardly what I'd call a new game.
-
That's hardly what I'd call a new game.
But would it qualify as a New Halo Experience?
-

called it.
-
that was just shit. stupid fucking shit. fucking dumbasses need to know when to use a countdown and when not to.
-
What article?
We hope you haven't dedicated too much time and stress to this 12-hour long countdown event.
We're excited to finally share this with you.
Enjoy the teaser.

This is will be available on Marketplace shortly.

Well, that build-up hype and let-down was Sony-esque.
-

I haven't, but I can see why they'd say this. Unless this was meant in that sly "we know you couldn't sleep last night" way.
That's hardly what I'd call a new game.

I dunno...all these halo-related trailers are looking the same. for all I know, some dude hacked Bungie's server and uploaded his wicked awesome fan video.

Maybe now is a good time to have a discussion on why gaming messageboard enthusiasts feast on every last morsel of gaming news, subject themselves to hours, days, weeks and even months of self-perpetuated hype, and then invariably feel unsatisfied when the announcement/trailer/event does not deliver to their expectations. And yet despite each subsequent letdown, they'll surely hype themselves into a frenzy for the next great hope.
Tune out, I say.
-
"Halo 3: Keep it Clean. [PEGI: 16+ ] High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop!"
HALO 3: OPPOSING WARHEAD
-
So why couldn't this have been tacked on to MS' E3 event?
-
If it IS a squad-based, tactical shooter, I hope it's a standalone product and not an expansion.
Tune out, I say.
I ususally do. I just tripped over this thread in my morning read. And I'm still disappointed, not by the possibility of the title, so much as the complete lack of hard info.

Agreed. I'm not much of a halo fan actually, so it's fun to look at these things from the outside in, from a "clueless bystander" perspective, but also with knowledge of the history behind this moment...speaking of which, is this really what was going to be shown at E3? :lol
In this case, it looks to me like people got fucking hosed by a vague advertisement. Bungie are masters of suspense. For all we know, it'll be out next Winter, but Bungie will have people discussing the details and rehashing clues, then eventually dissecting screens and vids, until the minute its out (and for some months thereafter.)
-

I'm speaking mostly of the folks that (as an example) have been pining for Bungie news since September 25, 2007, meticulously dissecting every last bit of information, ranging from little blurbs on the site to what t-shirt Luke Smith happens to be wearing. And while some Bungie fans are really far out there in their dedication, it's hardly something they've cornered the market on. How many megatons have been expected, versus the ones that truly deliver? And yet, the hype marches on.
I used to get it. I've forgotten how or why, though.
-
a. worthless teaser
b. halo 3 engine :-\
c. but i guess i'm always up for more halo campaign
-
I want to play the new game to see if Bungie will once again put two terrible levels at the end.
-
NEW CAMPAIGN EXPERIENCE TO GO WITH THE NEW XBOX EXPERIENCE
-
Looking forward to more Halo 3 campaign, though I'm a bit disappointed in the fact that it IS only an add-on. At the same time, hopefully that means it will be delivered sooner. It would also be nice if they could upgrade the engine to render at 1280x720 this time (doubtful) and fix the odd stuttering that occured throughout the game.
-
i think i'm the only one who likes the flood
-
i think i'm the only one who likes the flood
They were kinda cool the first time they appeared but they quickly became a nuisance. Fighting mindless zombies just ain't as fun as fighting aliens w/good AI.
-
I don't mind Flood, in moderation. It's a nice throwback to kill-em-down shooters of the past, but it got fucking distinguished mentally-challenged in Halo 3. That was just a shit design all around, and it brought a decent game to a screeching, messy halt right in a shitpit.
And A.I. even for advanced species seemed to be good only when you're fighting them head on. Even on Heroic, I could pick enemies off from a distance, and zoom in to see the remaining dudes stand still as if nothing had just happened, or just pacing back and forth. Not hiding behind cover or anything of that sort, just back and forth. The sad thing is that this still puts Halo a good few notches above most shooters.

NEW CAMPAIGN EXPERIENCE TO GO WITH THE NEW XBOX EXPERIENCE
If I don't see new xfan avatars about experiences, I will be as disappointed as I was by this announcement.
Halo 3: Quest For Booty.
-
Benbird was saying that "39.99 for banjo and viva" revolutionized the Xbox offering experience, so the talking points are disseminating as we SPEAK. Mattrickonomics bitches
-
i wish more games were $39.99
-

Yeah, the flood ship in Halo 3 was :yuck I just wanted to hurry up and get out of there as fast as I could.
-
yeah the flood ship was confusing, i got lost several times
-
The flood was fine in Halo 1, it was the other two game where they became a mess. I think the flood in Halo are comparable to the symbiotes from Spider-Man. Having Venom was fine, then Carnage came along and shat things up, then all other garbage and even the newly unveiled Anti-Venom. Learn when to stop when it becomes damaging to the product.
I do hope that whatever this game is it brings back the elites instead of the brutes. Brutes suck, Grunts suck, Flood sucks.
-
While I'm happy with new campaign content (I wanted this from the start as I enjoy co-op much more than MP) and it seems like it'll be a fresh take but an expansion does feel like a letdown (expected a new game) after all the delays and teasing.
-

Well, technically all Bungie games are set in the same "universe"; only at different times.
-
lol another halo game
bungie is the new nintendo
-
looks good
I want the new multiplayer maps now though :(
-
I see the people on the wrong side of the fence have now convinced themselves that the whole thing, from the countdown to the trailer itself, that's all fuck awesome and the right thing to do. Microsoft Designed Marketing succeeds again; it's almost like watching a brand new "political party" join the Russian ballot.
-
So, is this new content a standalone disc game or a downloadable expansion?
-
It better be standalone. I gave my copy of Halo 3 to a cousin. I ain't buying H3 again unless it were ported to the PC.

that the whole thing what?
-
the graphics look pretty good at least. a squad based halo taking place right after the MC goes into hibernation would be cool. it would probably be about taking out the remaining covenant. and that teaser analysis video really makes it a lot clearer what the hell is going on.

It's a CG teaser trailer...And it takes place after the destruction of New Mombasa (see Halo 2 cutscene) and seems to be taking place in that city, as the video analysis shows.
-

i feel obligated to say 'he accidentally the whole thing,' even though that meme outside its context is totally, terminally unfunny

That this whole affair was, according to the flock upon which Bungie's massive ego rests, fuck awesome and the right thing to do. Whereas in reality, it was shit all around.

It doesn't look impossible on current consoles so I thought it was in-game. I know that the game will start probably right after where Halo 2 ended but since everybody already knows what is going to eventually happen to the other halos and the flood, they should show the real ending to halo.
-
wow this gen is amazing
-
they could have had a decent campaign by taking out the shit levels
