Speed Racer: Not ACTUALLY a good anime.

Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Naruto, Death Note, and Mushi-shi.  I don't know what that last one is, but it sounds like the sort of toddlers-in-panties shit that Himu and Lyte Edge love so much.

Mushi is supposed to be good, never seen it. Apparently the new Knight Rider show this season is tanking in the ratings lol

Well, I mean, it has to carry on the legendary legacy of Team Knight Rider.  That's a tough act to follow, you know?

??? Earlier today, Prole was telling me how you and him have long, detailed, semi-explicit conversations about the nuances of the characterization in Ar Tonelico.  I just assumed you were like him in other animu-related regards.

I think patel said to skip the second half of the Death Note manga and watch the animu instead.  I think he said after book 7 of the manga, watch the animu if you don't want to be too let down.  I might have that wrong.

:rofl

You got Muckson and originalz here that know me personally.  Plus I have met up with the J-Bores several times before.  I don't dig them J-RPGs, man.  I don't generally like to play anything RPG (except action like Landstalker) for that matter, nor do I go for strategy games.  Nor do I play MMORPGs.

The fact that I played all the way through even Mass Effect is a landmark achievement.  I didn't like Oblivion, I didn't like Blue Dragon, and I couldn't get into DQ IV for "recent" RPGs I have tried.

You're reminding me of wide stance Republicans here, Lyte.  Don't be ashamed.  We all have our paraphilias.  I'd just rather wait until they are 9 or 10 rather than like 2 or 3.

For most pedophiles, the sexual aspect has little to do with sexual orientation.  People that appear to be straight males may go after little boys when they are in their zone.

no, the animu also shark jumps midway through

basically, the two live action movies adapt the first 7 books only give it a good, rewarding ending in place of "oh god this is so popular I can never end this"

Isn't the second movie a prequel to the first?  It's confusing.   ???

So it appears the original Death Note movie was split in two, and then there is a "third" movie called "L: Change The World" that came out in theaters this year.

Is there worthwhile Hellsing animu?  Hellsing is pretty entertaining from the 2 volumes I read.  I only read manga on the shitter, btw, and sometimes I accidentally puke on it when I'm having a particularly volcanic vomiting episode.

hellsing ultimate is great  (4 dvds out atm, around 40-50 mins each)

the original tv series does not follow the manga and fails

the third is a prequel to the first two

also you don't have to watch them, you can just ask me to tell you how the movie ends and you'll be

"oh, that is so much better!" (I've never seen the movies, I just had it paid-forward by another Death Note fan)
Title: Re: Another good thing ruined: Hulu introduces anime channel
Post by: bork on September 26, 2008, 02:15:17 PM
The wikipedia entry for L makes it even more confusing and says it is NOT a prequel.

Any idea when the animu goes tits up, or is it just somewhere near the 20 episode mark?  Will I *know* the shark jump when I see it?  The entire series is up on Himumulu, so this isn't like Naruto or One Piece wher I DL a giant torrent only to discover the show is terrible.

it's incredibly obvious. the anime/manga introduces a whole new set of characters who suck total balls.

the anime sounds like it "jumps" at 26

it might be worth watching one or two "post jump" episodes just to realize how badly you need to stop watching it at that point

The only way to enjoy Death Note is to watch up to the 13th minute of episode 19 of the anime, read up to the 35th page of the 4th book of the manga, then go watch the live action movies backwards while sitting naked in a tub full of warm honey.  Make sure the subs are in Italian for the last 20 minutes of the movie.

The anime is fine, though they could've cut it short...it's still worth watching for the last episode alone.

I gotta say I am enjoying the hell out of Death Note -- truly an anime for people that don't really like anime.  In the most recent episode though they introduced another serial killer that is a cute animu chick in a short skirt and tight clothes, so I'm beginning to worry if things will start to go downhill.

I like what I've read of the manga (first 3-4 volumes--it seems like bookstores are always out of whatever volume I need).

I like Hellsing, too.  Fun shtuff.

She will confirm most of your stereotypes about anime-- she has no depth to her personality, only serves to be cute, hot, appeal to goth fetishists, get kidnapped, and perform the function of killing people/falling in love with the main character, who isn't all that into her because he's a male in an anime show.

The story is more intriguing than most anime, but it doesn't break the mold in a lot of stylistic senses--tons of repetition, awkward changes in the composition of the cast/story, etc.

Still-- hang on till the last episode.  :)

There was a Blame! mini-special that came out a few years ago. It was mainly just an extended preview for a series that likely will never get made, though.
