Like, the GBA version, but even more awesome. Why this gets ignored is baffling.

Mega Man 9, Samurai Shodown 2 and that's about it. I haven't really had much time to play games lately. Sucks too becaue I have got about 10 hours into Vesperia (which I loved) and Dragon Quest 4 is still in the plastic.    :(

I am thinking about turning my friend's face into jelly for bragging about how he is in the Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and LBP beta right now with extras and won't give them to me because he wants to be diplomatic about it and give them away on gaf.  Fuck that.

Last night I finished Halo 3.  Even though I got the game at release last year, much like Halo and Halo 2 before it, I bought it only for the multiplayer.  But I did wind up playing through most of Halo 3's campaign mode because of the co-op feature; four player campaign was fun.  All this time I knew I must have never played one level, and finally decided to go through it.  Turned out to be the Covenant level; HOLY SHIT was that LOOOOOONG.  Every time I thought it was over, it kept going.  But now that's done and I have some more armor types for multi and a few more achievement points.  Yay n stuff.

Today I'm probably gonna be at home all day and play Soul Calibur IV, Halo 3, and maybe some Mercenaries 2, Rockman 9, and Musou Orochi 2.

dear god i can not believe i wasted money on assassin's creed.  what a completely barren, shit game.  i could get more entertainment out of brain age than i can doing the simplistic, repetitive crap that's supposed to qualify as gameplay in ac. i haven't played an ubisoft game in years, and it's sad to see that their game are still glitchy fuckfests with mediocre-at-best execution.  but i know i'll play it to completion because i'm so bored :(

assassin's creed >>>>>>>> mgs4
Title: Re: Weekend Gaming: What are you playing?
Post by: Positive Touch on September 27, 2008, 01:07:42 PM
nope.  take out mgs4's awful story and you still have a game that starts off great but tapers off into mediocrity.  ac is just completely awful all the way through.  there isn't a single good idea that's well-executed in this game.

you mean other than the crowd movement, the stealth/movement controls, the panoramic city vistas, the sense of parkour, the cool kills, and the superb artistic coherence?

i'll repeat it again: assassin's creed >>>>>>>> mgs4

AC is pretty boring once you've put time into it, but MGS4 is just awful. Why would you compare MGS4 to this.

Yeah, that crowd movement was really, truly mind-blowing.  Surely, it's an important factor all games will need to consider in the future. I'm not sure if it will take precedence over panoramic city vistas or not, though.

any attempt at immersion is ruined by the shitty ai.  i walked up to a cliff and noticed that there was a nice-looking beach down below.  i wanted a better look, so i jumped up on a waist-high wall.  a nearby soldier flipped out and threw a rock, which knock Altair to his death.  DEATH FOR JUMPING ONTO A WALL.  also having your horse move a anything more than a slow trot is punishable by death too, for some reason.  and yet i regularly stab drunks and beggars with no punishment at all.  not that i mind being able to kill those annoying fucks (listening to their shittily compressed audio is reason enough to kill them), i'd prefer it if the npc's didn't operate on some insane moral code.

oh and while the graphics look nice, the animation totally sucks.

and i think it's pretty sad that i don't need to actually run from guards because i can take on thirty of them at once and win.

and fuck any game that requires me to chase dots on a fucking radar.

and there's no reward collecting the stupid flags (all 400+ of them!), the future stuff is boring and kristen bell's character model is awful, there are TWO different types of places to hide from guards in, climbing most towers just involves holding up, etc, etc, etc

this game is fukk awful

I have yet to play AC and MGS4.  Both are sitting on my shelf gathering dust!

I got AC and Mass Effect together.  I decided to play ME first; that took me several months and then I never got around to AC.  And when I got MGS4, I had yet to finish MGS3S, Portable Ops, and PLAY MGS2S.  So I beat MGS3S, got much further in Portable Ops, and played a bit of MGS2S before burning out on the whole thing.  One day I guess.

Duke Nukem 3D - the level design is pretty awesome in the SP campaign. MP is very straightforward, but fun.
Mercs 2 - About 75% done this one. It's pretty great so far, though I'm not sure it's a keeper.

I'm playing N+ and thank god that game has leaderboard video functionality. There's this hellish level called Hexactly (42.4) and I watched a vid to get a gist of the ideal movement. Lo and behold, the top player shows an exploit to get to the switch immediately  :bow

1000/1000 on Vesperia
Wipeout HD: got 3 golds and 1 silver so far. Came 2nd in my first/only online race.
Aquanaut's Holiday: nice and chilled. This must be underwater love (http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=tIYoorXGITE)
The World Ends With You: On day 6? So much fucking shopping to do at this point, I'm getting pissed off with it. Does this game really end after a week? It doesn't look like it so far. Spot the blatant twist a mile off.
n+ DS: hmm, ok. music not as good as 360 so disappointing in that respect.
World Destruction: played for about 10 minutes and it was all cutscene. Turned off after the first battle without saving. Will go back later, maybe.

you really need to read all of the emails (especially in the conference room) and all of the eagle vision stuff for the end of ac to make sense.  you can find story faqs on gamefaqs that explains everything that you can access or see with eagle vision and it really makes it clear that the ending isn't just a cheap cliffhanger but that a lot actually happens.  You really do learn as much of the story out of the animus as you do while in it and it's probably the best videogame story I've seen.

spoiler that's all right if you finished the game:
th

e genetic "bleeding" stuff is what I think made them have to end the game with that cliffhanger.  obviously the next game is going to to play a lot different.

MGS4 is such a fucking letdown in all regards.  It cannot be argued otherwise.  For the first time in the series, the gameplay is actually decent, but it's such a tease since there's so little of it.  If you've played the first 2 acts, you've played everything in the game that is worth playing.  The story is embarrassing, even for a videogame--possibly the MOST embarrassing story in a videogame ever.  I defended Kojima after MGS2's twists, but MGS4 is like, Michael Bay bad.  I hope Kojima gets cancer in his dick.
