I keep meaning to check it out.  Is it worthwhile?  I know initial reviews were all over the place.

It's pretty good. Not on the same plane as The Shield though.

It's basically like The Shield but from the criminal's pov and with an asian elvis.  It's not as good as The Shield but it's similar to it with the story being all about different gangs working with each other and having wars.  It's way more bloody than The Shield though.
