How are the Thor comics?  After getting into Doctor Strange, I am curious as to how they tackled the Norse shit.

Don't expect much in the way of mythological accuracy. Apparently, the Gods of Asgard are actually super powered aliens that came to earth thousands of years ago, and the humans started referring to them as gods cause of their cool abilities.

the Walt Simonson run is considered the "canonical" stuff

I've never really been able to get into "magical" superheroes (Strange, Thor, etc.)

though I think if I started with the Kirby versions of them I could enjoy them

I read the first two volumes of Essential Doctor Strange.  I have no problem recommending that at all.

One step closer to that avenger movie.

In a lot of ways I'm glad that DC isn't whoring out its franchises like Marvel is, but I do want a Green Lantern movie already.

Well, at least it looks better than Too Human's treatment of the material.

It's pretty clear from a variety of things that they're going for the 'Ultimate' versions of all those characters, since they're considerably more believable for modern audiences. Which is cool, because Thor in Ultimates is a very interesting character. For most of the series, I really had no idea if he was just a delusional guy with a magic hammer, a delusional guy with very cool tech or you know, the NORSE GOD OF THUNDER.

Slightly better than Dyack did.
