It was really weird buying Universal movies on Blu-ray...

I bought The World Ends With You.
I gave a friend my DVD copy of 40 Year Old Virgin, and I never bought the DVD of Knocked Up in the hopes that Universal would start making Blu-rays... waiting a year proved to be the right move.

10 gallons of gas for my car, nothing interesting today.
Got an ebay bid going on this though:

Are they good quality?

Not sure. I'm watching Sarah Marshall right now, it looks good.
Like its previously released HD DVD counterpart, the Blu-ray edition of ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin' offers fans a visual upgrade from the standard-def DVD, but fails to pop like its better-encoded high-def brethren. In fact, while Universal’s 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer is well saturated and vivid at times, it often feels flat and dusty. Contrast and black levels are a mixed bag -- sometimes they're bright and deep, but at other times they make the picture feel downright murky. Compare scenes in Trish's ebay store to those involving her date with Andy at the Japanese Hibachi restaurant. As you'll see, the skintones are skewed green, the balloons aren’t three-dimensional or vibrant, and the dark corners of the room are poorly delineated. There are countless other examples of image inconsistency throughout the film, but the picture rarely leaps off the screen in the way I've come to expect with high definition.
Technically speaking, there aren't any distracting instances of noise, artifacting, banding, or grain, but the print itself is sprinkled with occasional marks and spots (a particular oddity for a newer film). Likewise, while the BD isn’t plagued by the mosquito noise, haloing, and heavy edge enhancement of the standard DVDs, its clean image still suffers from lingering edge enhancement. Don’t get me wrong, the disc’s increased resolution, improved fine detailing, and relatively reliable image kept me relatively happy as a fan of the film... I just wish it looked as good as other Apatow films available in high definition.
’Knocked Up' features the film's unrated 133-minute cut, spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc and presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.85:1). This is a re-encode of the same master used for the previous HD DVD, and there is no quantifiable difference between the two. This transfer looks pretty good, but has enough flaws that I remain somewhat disappointed. This is not one of Universal's top-tier next-gen new releases. (Note: Though it is not that prominent on the menu, you can select between the Extended and Theatrical Cuts of the film, both at start-up and with live toggle during playback.)
Topping the list of the pros is a sparkling fresh print. Befitting a new release, there is not a single speck or blemish to be found. Blacks are pitch perfect, and while contrast is a bit on the hot side, the transfer isn't too intense. On the not-so-bright side, color reproduction is a bit skewed. It's rare that I see a transfer with too much yellow, but that's the case here -- fleshtones look sickly, and the entire presentation just looks just a bit left of center. Add the yellow cast to the slightly hot contrast, and highlights flatten out, lessening detail and depth.
Not problematic is shadow delineation, which is above average with fine detail visible throughout. Sharpness is also excellent, and edge enhancement is not an issue. Noise isn't an irritant, and I didn't notice any artifacts. I still wish that 'Knocked Up' looked like a million bucks, but it remains a solid triple.

The unrated cut has lots of nudity, much more than I remember in the theater.
PD should be happy.

Does Blu-ray make the movies funnier, DM? :P

i've had a lot of fun with this so far, actually
it's pretty but if you turn all the effects on, some people can hide easily in the over abundance of shrubbery and as they have no issue hitting you... it can get kind of annoying

Bjork - Vespertine Live at Royal Opera House DVD
I was so impressed with the live DVD that I went back to the record store (it's 5 mins from my place) and immediately picked up the Vespertine CD.
I wasn't too familiar with Bjork outside of The Sugarcubes and Post. I think my next purchase will be Homogenic.
