Another aspect which has popped up in the forums recently is whether we are going to do a server merge or not, and I can today confirm that we are actively working on an approach to merge servers, both in Europe and North America. It’s important for us to ensure the best gameplay experience for you all, and more healthy populations on each and every server will make sure we maintain healthy communities for the game in the future. Still, there are many complexities involved in this, and we want to ensure that everything happens as fair and streamlined as possible. That work has now started, and we are naturally making sure that guilds and players can get to new servers in the best possible way. We will come back with more info on this, but I hope that this will serve as a positive injection to the social scene in the game.
Not even live for six months, and they're already closing servers.

Speaking of failing MMO's, Ultimate Baseball Online (recently rebranded as Cal Ripken's Real Baseball) went under.
-
I don't understand why anyone would launch a fantasy style MMO unless they were sure they had some feature that would make them competitive with the market leader. AOC looked ugly and didn't seem to have anything going for it. Warhammer on the other hand strikes me as a real contender. It won't surpass WoW but I think it'll find a healthy audience due to the IP alone

That's the first I've ever even heard of it.

WAR will probably need to merge servers after the new year sometime. WAR's design (specifically Public Quests) is more aligned to NEEDING a large population of players across all Tiers in order to participate in the content. There are already complaints of there not being enough people anymore to do lower level Public Quests as everyone has moved on to the higher tiers; leaving new players unable to do the newbie Public Quests due to them being pretty much empty. People are asking Mythic to find a fix for this (bots that spawn for PQs?) soon or else it could be a problem going on.

i agree with this
you can generally solo the first part (kill 100 X) but the second part involves champions (basically elites) which you can't solo, then the last part is a hero, which can take 10 minutes to kill with a team. so it's kind of a pain in the lower tiers

I dont know why people feel the need to complete public quests, I just grind inf at 11pm alone and take the inf reward and move on. A lot of the public quest specific quests have blah rewards anyway.
I love WoW tho and will probably go back after wotlk releases, but I will say its refreshing to play with the DAoC The Next Generation character classes instead of trying to decide which class I wanna play for the 80th time in WoW.

That's what most people will do. WAR will settle into 200k-300k active subs after the first of the year.

I thought AOC was doing pretty well. Did a lot of people cancel their subs? I'll give it a 2nd go once the DX10 graphics are implemented. People who've seen the new DX10 graphics say that they look awesome.

Which is fine, an MMORPG can turn a profit easily, and for those who do more than play only the MMORPG that is the most popular, thats a good thing.
