game of the forever
-
smh
-
better than earthbound
-
fuck no it isnt
-
earthbound makes me want to barf because of those weird acid trip battle backgrounds. It is like the game wants the player to barf on their tv on purpose because the game is so shitty.
-
You're such a fucking weirdo.
FFVIII sucks.
-
coming from you that sounds like a compliment.
Maybe you should develop some taste in games just like how you should develop taste in men.

FF8 is my least favorite FF next to 12. Note that I have not played 2 or 3.
-
FF8 really isn't that bad. I don't know why it's constantly treated like the black sheep in the series.
-
One of the best games ever. I totally love it.
Fuck FFVII remake. Remake this.
-
:bow FFVIII :bow2
Best one by a mile imo.
-
FF8 was my least favorite FF game, until X2 came along and turned everything into a joke. 12 was boring as all hell, but it was still not the clusterfuck X2 was, although FF8 vs 12 is a tough one for me.
-
Game is awful, Himuro's still a loser
-
FF8 was enjoyable, but Rinoa was the worst character since Aeris only to be upstaged by Yuna in later games.
-
The game was lame and broken.
It was funny to see how the junction system made it broken though.
-
Final Fantasy 9 is better than 7, 8, 10 and 12 combined.
-
mmmm, ff8. mostly it was the awesome soundtrack and the junction system that made it for me. rinoa was a cockteasing whore and squall shoulda facepunted her for the hotty teacher quistis when he had the chance.

You and Himuro can team up to write a fanfic about it.
-
there are only 3 final fantasies that i haven't finished. ff3, ff8 and x2.
i might complete 8 one day, but x2? never.
-
8 is better than 3, 1, 5, 7, and 12 (in that order). 10 would be the best Final Fantasy if it weren't for a supremely unlikable cast.

fun fact: i've put over 1000 hours in FF8, but i've only actually beaten the final boss once. I LOVE THE JUNCTION SYSTEM
:heartbeat :heart :bow Final Fantasy VIII :bow2 :heart :heartbeat
-
brandnew is basically right, except FFIV and FFVIII need more pee on em
-
eh FFVIII is the only FF that i completed just to say i did. the only thing that kept me going through it were the beautiful CGs. i finished the game without even trying to explore the battle mechanics (and the junction system behind it).
basically it's my least favorite final fantasy post FFVI.
Himuro: can you rank all your favorite FFs from best to worst (while mentioning the first one you played) please? the answer to this question always help me to understand other FF fans.
1. FFVIII
2. FFVI
3. FFX
4. FFVII
5. FFIV
6. FFV
7. FFIX
8. FFIII
9. FFI
10. FFII
11. FFXII
First FF was FFVII, but I like all the games in the series, even II...okay, not II. Except XII. XII is shit. But I don't like II NEARLY as much as I dislike XII.
-
1. FFX-2
2. FFVI
3. FFX
4. FFT
The rest are horrible.
-
Himuro, you should make a video about it. You could be like the Bubsy 3D guy.
-
1. FFX-2
2. FFVI
3. FFX
4. FFT
The rest are horrible.
Never talk about Final Fantasy ever again.
Himuro, you should make a video about it. You could be like the Bubsy 3D guy.
Are you comparing FF8 to Bubsy 3d?
-
1. FFX-2
2. FFVI
3. FFX
4. FFT
The rest are horrible.
yeah this is a fucking distinguished mentally-challenged post
And FF8 totally owns, fuck the haters. Laguna and Squall are like the awesomest characters ever
-
Scenester i knew I could count on you.
Shenmue bros always stick up for one another.
-
yeah we've got pretty similar taste in games

FFVIII-Shenmue connection Represent
They're both connected because of their shit quality.
Sega & S-E = :-X :-X :-X :-\ :-\ :-\ :maf
Sega is the lesser of two evils, though.
-
FFVIII was not even made by S-E. It was made by the almighty Squaresoft.
-
I want out of this Shenmue fanclub thing. Even though I really like Shenmue, I'm not about to be required to go gaga over FF8.
actually, if I can right a fanfic about how Ren dislodges Rinoa's jaw with a knee kick I will stay in.
-
No. Once you join the Shenmue fanclub you cannot leave!
-
Hell's Angels gets anyone who leaves.
-
FF8 rocks
-
One of the best games ever. I totally love it.
Fuck FFVII remake. Remake this.
-
I liked how you could get the Lionheart within the first few areas if you started drawing and refining items from enemies en mass.
-
fun fact: i've put over 1000 hours in FF8, but i've only actually beaten the final boss once. I LOVE THE JUNCTION SYSTEM
:heartbeat :heart :bow Final Fantasy VIII :bow2 :heart :heartbeat
Over 1000? I spent about 100 hours in a game where I maximized absolutely everything so that I even had three sets of 100 Ultima spells. In fact most of my time was spent fucking around with junctioning, card playing, card modding, drawing, refining, etc. Going through the actual game was trivial since even boss fights took no more than a few seconds.
I never did have the patience to maximize stats in Final Fantasy X though (and besides, it's impossible to maximize ALL stats no matter what you do with the sphere grid and with armor abilities). I spent like 160 hours and eventually gave up.
-
Maxing stats in FF10 is ridiculous.
-
haha i didn't have patience for that
-
I just download the saves of others who are foolish enough to max out everything. :P
That or I use editors and cheat code.
-
1. FFVIII
2. FFVI
3. FFX
4. FFVII
5. FFIV
6. FFV
7. FFIX
8. FFIII
9. FFI
10. FFII
11. FFXII
First FF was FFVII, but I like all the games in the series, even II...okay, not II. Except XII. XII is shit. But I don't like II NEARLY as much as I dislike XII.
hmmm this is interesting because the only people i know who rank FFVIII above all FFs are the ones that started with VIII (much like everyone that got introduced to FF via VII and thus rank it above all).
but (and again this is imo) i doubt that you're being objective with your list as i doubt that had you started playing the FF pre VII your list list would be the same (at least IV and IX would rank higher)...
which reminds me: why is IX ranked 7th? :/
I love FFIV and FFIX. Why should FFIX be higher? FFIX is 7th because it's the weakest 3d FF next to FFXII, and unlike other games in the series, it fails to do anything new. It mostly borrows ideas from previous games in the series, and adds awesome production values all over them. A lot of the game creatively dead. It is like Final Fantasy Greatest Hits. That's not to say it isn't bad, because it isn't, but when there are other factors that lower overall enjoyment level of FFIX as well, such as having perhaps the slowest battle system in the series, and the amount of throw away characters it ranks low on the list. But to be honest, it's really only disc 2-4 that does it in. Disc 1 was and still is amazing.
And really? Most people I know who love FFVIII are ones who like the older FF's.
But remember what I said, the only FF I honestly really don't like is XII.
-
I played I-VI before IX.
I went through V and VI in 1999 on FF Anthology.
I-III I played via emulator in 2000. I played a good portion of FFIV on snes emulator and dropped it when i heard they might bring out the psx version to the US.
-
Well, despite my complaints about the game, it's still an important game to me. It was the first rpg I played that didn't take me FOREVER to beat. Well, I guess Pokemon and FFI-III count too. But with FFIX, I spent 75-80 hours on it and beat it within a month. Beat it on Christmas day 2000. With FFVII and VIII it took me 3 months plus to beat them.
-
Replaying 8 now while my 360 is getting repaired. I forgot how good jrpgs could be probably because I haven't enjoyed a console jrpg since FF9. 8 holds up pretty well, much better than 7 does anyway, but my top 3 rank would still have to be
FF7 > FF9 > FF8
-
FF8 gets a lot more shit than it deserves.
I think most of the complaints is from the dramatic departure from the usual gameplay from FFI-VII. Doesn't necessarily mean it was bad though. I also wonder how many of the FFVIII bashers actually played the game or just jumped on the bandwagon. That or how many kept getting their asses kicked at the end of the first disc when they half assed it and hit a wall. FF8 is definitely a game where you have to put in the effort if you want to make progress. It won't hold your hand.
-
I think most people just spammed GF and Draw instead of playing the efficient way.
-
FFVIII is on the list of FFs that I've never gotten around to playing (also includes FFX and X2, which I planned on playing after I finished XII, but it was so terrible that I was completely turned off from the series).
-
Hawaiian Team Undecided
No, FF8 was made in Tokyo (well, Square USA helped out a bit, mostly with tools and plugins for the CG movie team in Japan IIRC). It was 9 that was made in Hawaii.

Not to mention, story wise and thematically, it kicks all other FF"s in the penis.

Non-serious reply: because it's the best FF, lol
Serious reply: What makes FF8's story is so great is how every thing is tied together, even the small things. In FF8, unlike most FF's, everything isn't shoved in your face. A lot of key story points are left to the player's imagination, such as Rinoa being Julia's daughter, or Squall being Laguna/Raine's son. The movie Laguna was in on disc 3 influenced Seifer so much it pretty much made him who he was. Notice how when Laguna uses the gunblade against the dragon, he fights with Seifer's stance. Where do you think Seifer got the stance from? At the beginning of the game they say a movie called The Sorceresses Knight is on the waiting list, most obviously Seifer wants to watch it again.
Another facet that makes FF8's story so appealing, to me, at least is that it's a time travel story. I love time travel stories. The entire game is one endless time loop. If Squall hadn't gone back in the past along with Ultimecia in the ending, then Ultimecia wouldn't have given her powers to Edea. But at the same, that very moment Squall gives Edea the idea of Seed and Garden. If this event didn't happen, Garden and Seed wouldn't exist, but at the same time Edea wouldn't have been possessed and who knows what would have happened.
Knowing this, Cid and Edea already know Squall's future because the future Squall already told Edea before she could become possessed. So when Cid pushes Squall in the game, it's not only because he's a natural leader, it's also because he knows that Squall's the one that defeats Ultimecia in the first place, so he pushes him to do this.
Ultimecia is defeated, but the heroes of FF8 keep doing this over and over in one endless time loop. No one know which loop number it's on when the game starts.
Thematically, the game has a lot more themes going for it than most other Final Fantasy's, especially since they all aren't shoved down your throat, like in VII or especially IV. The themes of destiny, considering the different philosophies of enemies, and defeating one's inner demons were never been pulled off so well in a Final Fantasy.
Story wise, what Final Fantasy bar VI has better story pacing and memorable moments? The Dollet mission, the Laguna flashbacks, the parade and attempted assassination on Edea, the Garden war, the missle base and attempting to stop these said missles hitting Balamb Garden, Garden flying in the fucking air, Esthar, going into space, the Ragnarok, and more? The entire game has memorable moment after moment and not one of these moments is dull. The story is action packed and never lets up.
-
stop trying to make me play through this game AGAIN
-
Lemme tell you this.
The first time I played FF8, I was left bitter. I completely misunderstood it. I wasn't even fair to it because I expected FFVII-2. I replayed a few years later after it came out, and it became my favorite Final Fantasy.
That's typically the story for a lot of people.
The older I got, the mroe rpgs I played, the more I was able to appreciate FF8's design sensibilities and not expect FF7-2.

What a surprise, the good final fantasy is the American one.

Well, mr. fash, the thing isnt exactly a design flaw, it's just the way FF8 ticks. there are multiple ways to have enemies NOT level up with you. My personal favorite is carding enemies. this makes fights more interesting because you have guess every single battle how much hp the enemy has and when it's possible to card, who should attack so you don't kill them, and so forth. Staying at a low level the entire game makes the game a challenge itself.
