Yeah,it is 5am CET...

Quote
Can you say “Halo”? Xbox Live boss John Schappert very well may be able to tomorrow, as the exec takes to the stage at the Makuhari Messe to kick off Tokyo Game Show 2008.

His keynote is titled “A Canvas for the World,” and is expected to focus heavily on the upcoming New Xbox Experience UI update for 360 and - so say the little birds - Bungie is in Japan in force, so watch out for that.

Synchronise watches, team: Schappert’s address starts at 1200pm local time tomorrow, Thursday, October 9. According to this, that’s 4.00am UK time or 5.00am CET if you’re on the mainland.

Most important question

Is somebody live-streaming,blogging...etc TGS keynote?

Also something to heat things up

Quote
Bungie is set to make a major announcement at this year's Tokyo Game Show which kicks off with Microsoft's keynote tomorrow, the rather cheesily entitled "A Canvas for the World."

Xbox Live boss John Schappert will kick off the Tokyo Game Show 2008 fun and games at the Makuhari Messe tomorrow at 4am (UK time) and rest assured TechRadar will have our team on the ground to bring you all the important news as it happens.

Schappert's keynote - "A Canvas for the World" – will undoubtedly focus heavily on the cutesy new Xbox Experience UI update for 360, some big new Xbox Live Arcade titles from Japanese developers (remember last year brought us the mighty Igaruka and Rez), some big RPG announcements (the next Mistwalker RPG is rumoured) and – should the rumours prove to be true – also segue into some interesting announcements from Bungie (with the key members of the Bungie team having already been spotted on the ground in Tokyo).

Ninja developer joins Microsoft?

Tomonobu Itagaki, director of the Ninja Gaiden series, is also rumoured to be putting in an appearance. Pre-show whispering suggests that Microsoft may well have poached the renegade, whisky-slugging rock and roll games developer. Now that would be a coup…

With the death of the beastly spectacle that was E3, the Tokyo Game Show is arguably now the most important date on the international gaming calendar, attracting over 200,000 trade and consumer attendees (as well as some VERY strange cosplayer fetishists).

All the major Japanese developers and publishers are in attendance at TGS (along with a few US and European companies) to unveil their latest games, hardware and peripherals.

Namco-Bandai and Square-Enix announcements will no doubt steal the show for the hardcore Japanese gaming faithful, with updates also expected on Capcom's Resident Evil 5 and, no doubt, some interesting showings from those other Japanese giants SEGA and Konami.

If that happens  :heartbeat :heartbeat MS

Looking forward to PC & PS3 becoming even more irrevelant.

Maybe RE5 will be dropped for the PC?  According to Capcom, DMC4 sold like garbage despite being a great port.  I think they have themselves to blame though for waiting so long to release the PC version.  Multiple system owners are more likely to pirate the PC version if they already played it on a console.

I sure as hell hope not.  They need to adjust their marketing/timing, not give up on the PC!   Needs to be advertised, up on Steam day 1, and look glorious.

No More Heroes 2 could be really awesome if they:

-add more enemy varieties and scenarios
-drop the sandbox crap OR actually give it a reason to exist
-work on the graphics (though it was mostly bad in the sandbox city because of the atrocious LOD distance)

Seriously, I kept driving past that high school before it could actually transition to the higher-quality version. If you were at least 30 yards away it suddenly became a big blurry box.

What hardware did VF5 run on?  That port turned out OK for the 360.

Sega's Lindbergh hardware.  I don't see anything in Tekken 6 that makes me think it would have some sort of problem being ported to 360, but it is made for PS3 hardware.

Sony not trying to keep exclusives is a bad move on their part.

So, uh, I don't know if it's true or not but there is Sony info now.  Only thing worth mentioning is that on October 30th, every multiplayer PSP game is going to be playable online through the PS3.  Oh, and apparently PSP games are now getting released both on UMD and through DD; there is also a new PSN Store that can be used through the PSP itself.

All PSP games online is going to be awesome.  (http://i37.tinypic.com/13zs8le.gif), Sony.

I knew it was announced, but I didn't think it would be out so soon.  I originally thought it would be out around the same time as Agito.

And I will take pleasure in destroying anyone online with Exia in Gundam vs. Gundam.  I never played the Arcade version, but it is more than 2 people at once, right?

I guess the information leaks were from some business event and not the actual keynote.  I'm still happy.

I'm semi excited for Halo 3 recon...4 player co op in Halo 3 is fun.  I'm more of a campaign guy than multiplayer guy anyway.

However, since this is an expansion, hopefully the game is priced at an expansion price point.  30 or 40 dollars.  None of this 60 dollars expansion bullshit.

However, why would MS choose TGS as the event to unveil this game? ???

If you are a PS3 only owner you are still getting Tekken 6 (again I don't understand why a game is irrelevant when it goes multiplatform) and Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 looks amazing.  WKC also has potential to be good depending on the actual gameplay video that leaks, but right now it reminds me of IU, which is actually both good because I was really hyped up for IU, or bad since IU didn't deliver.

that really doesn't sound mass market appealing and i'm sure sales figures on the Halo and RgG3 series in the US would back me up ;)

I'm not forgetting anything, I'm using the list of things that Grecco provided. He gave 2 Wii games, 1 multiplatform game, and 1 exclusive.

And I'm not arguing sales or anything. He said the show was horrible if you're an sfan and then provided a list of 3 games that don't matter.

Punchout is fun for roughly 2 minutes at a time. so it fits in with nintendo's strategy of making games unbearable if you have to play them for more than 10 minutes.

You have to wonder what "expansion" means when coming from the company whose full games clock tend to clock in at around 8-9 hours.

I think as far as the show goes, it comes down to expectations. Xtards don't tend to expect a lot, so little is sufficient. Stards, on the other hand, expect every year to signal the return of The Sony, with revelations of dozens of RPGs and various projects like the new one from Team Ico. From that perspective, it must be disaster time right around now.

jesus , do you ever give sony a break? just because MGS4 was so short, is that ALL you are ever going to bring up?! ;)
hell, fucking Sony fans bringing up this shit as Sony announce Spec 3 is fucking laughable.

"We don't actually have GT5 yet... please enjoy another year of demo! ... we might even charge (if us honourable japanese allow you the privalege!)"

mi mi mi - expanision mi mi mi even if it's 8-9 hours, as i say, that's a good 50% on MGS4.

You may want to recalibrate that spud gun of yours, because you're hitting nothing but air. I have no love for anything MGS, and GT has been irrelevant to me since, well, the first one. Instead, we could talk about how inefficient Bungie is, as that is something we might have a common interest in. Basically, turn down the fanboy speakers a bit.

you have to hold sony to blame somewhat! they promised the universe X years ago, and they delivered a small slice.
you can't throw it back on to tard fans fully, they hype machine tends to go quiet when they fail to deliver (twiddles thumbs for GTPSP which is coming just as soon as GT5 proper gets delivered apparently... in 2051)

Naturally, just explaining why it might seem more shit on one side of the fence than on the other.

Wasn't the Team Ico game basically promised for this TGS?

See the connection here? Halo is one of my favorite games of all time, and I was a pretty big Xbot back in the day. The only thing I thought Sony did right last generation was God of War, and beyond that my love for Sony was pretty much limited to Wipeout, which never even saw a good iteration in that generation. There are small things. The Xbox was the system with the most features standard, without a nickle and dime policy on everything. Instead of Rallisport, we have multiples of dull ass, safe tarmac grinders. Bungie takes years to deliver a few hours of B plot sci-fi, and two more to deliver a fucking expansion. The one thing that seems to have improved is Fable, but we'll see how that ends up. My dislike for the 360 is not even almost irrational.

jesus christ.
this is absolutely shocking stuff, there is no defending this sort of bunkum.

Well, it was. A shitload of so-so to downright crappy games, JRPGs which to me all suck incredible amounts of rotten sewage, and various quirky garbage games from hell. I hated GT, loathed the Team Ico games, and vehemently disliked having to buy memory cards and adapters for everything from 4 player MP to online gaming. The only highlights were the games from Insomniac, Sucker Punch and Santa Monica Studio.

Meh, all this talk about j shit is depressing. RE5 is the only game I'm interested in. I'll get a 360 when it comes out

I was excited about RE5 until E3, when it became clear that it was really just RE4 HD. I know they talked about having nowhere to hide, with destructible environments, and then I see a dude bust through a clearly marked section of the wall. Add serious clipping issues and weird looking animation, and it was just a disappointment. And here I thought I wanted RE4 HD.

I don't play all that many games, and I don't enjoy wading through stockpiles of games in hopes of finding one that is decent, when experience tells me that just about every shelf filler I had bought, I had regretted buying. I played four games on my PS1; Wipeout, Wipeout 2097, Wip3out SE and CTR. That's it, everything else got a few minutes and then back in the case. After buying a PS2, I was amazed at the amount of games the system had, compared to the PC and Xbox platforms. But other than Ratchet and Sly and later God of War, nothing I bought managed to stick around. Wipeout Fusion sucked, which made me just flat out hate everything about the PS2. The Xbox was a much more appealing platform, due to its all-in-one build, media features and having more than enough good to great games to keep me busy.

So, the Ps3 is your favourite next-gen system?

SNES and ps2 are the best platforms ever IMO
Title: Re: TGS Keynotes
Post by: duckman2000 on October 09, 2008, 03:45:47 PM
Favorite, yes, but hardly all that great. If anything, I'm more happy with its usefulness as a media hub than as a gaming machine, but hopefully MotorStorm 2 will make it level with RSC2-having Xbox at least when it comes to racing games, and R2 + Infamous will likely push it further. Other than that, meh. I'll keep playing reasonably well-ported multiplatform games on the system due to the abhorrent UI and noise level of the 360, but as far as gaming machines go I can't spot any great differences between the two right now.

This generation isn't a great one.
Title: Re: TGS Keynotes
Post by: bork on October 09, 2008, 03:50:23 PM
It's weird; I loved SNES as a kid but I think it has aged horribly.  So many of the game just seem slow or choppy in comparison to the other platforms at the time.
IMO the best systems ever are the NES, Genesis, Neo-Geo, PS1, and PS2.  On the portable side it's the GB, Neo-Geo Pocket Color, GBA, and PSP.  I am still undecided on this gen, which despite having some great games and online play has been largely disappointing to me.

This generation isn't a great one.

Can't say I agree with much else you wrote, but definitely with you on this one.  It says something when a lot of my favorite titles released this generation have been PS2, PSP, and DS games.

4'30 am - time for bed. this isn't making any sense!

The PS3 is still below Xbox level when it comes to racing games because MotorStorm failed to be more wicked than RSC2. R2 and Infamous will probably give the PS3 a whole lot more value as a games machine, at least for me. Not sure what's so confusing about it.

I'll give Microsoft this, though; there's nothing else like Fable out there, except Fable 2. That was a smart deal, and MS seems to be letting them do their own thing.

There's no way I'm inviting him to the Michigan EBers meet up.

But Duckman is Swedish.  He could hook you up with some Nordic chicks.

R2 was okay - but i thought you weren't a scripted fps fan? R2 is really REALLY tightly scripted at least on the demo, with lots of corridors with -no- options which became incredibly infuriating, and i ended up feeling like a prodded cattle being poked down a set path (much worse than COD4).

still, i liked the setting and the atmosphere and the colour, so heh...

Is there even a realistic option for those who prefer open ended, do it your own way shooters? Speaking of COD4 though, I'm sort of hoping that R2 MP can become an alternative to that, if even for just a while. If the SP is as scripted as COD4, then that will be a damned shame. On paper, Killzone 2 MP sounds like a better match for COD4, but that's a fucking Guerrilla game.

Which I've been doing for some time. But I like single player content too, I don't always want to play competitively. Though clearly, this isn't the age of well thought out and designed FPS campaigns.

Isn't R2 supposed to have an eight-player co-op mode where you fight hoards of enemies on randomly-generated maps?  I am all over that.

First time I heard about it, they were talking about it as basically a separate campaign, complete with storyline and all sorts of goodies. But the footage they have shown has seemed more GRAW co-op than anything. Not that 8 player online, objective based co-op would be a bad thing, but it seems quite a bit different from what it was originally said to be.

og xbox IS better than 360

get back in your box Himu, you haven't a fucking clue what you are talking about.

I like 360 but next gen hasn't grabbed me yet and the one next gen game i was highly anticipating turned out disappointing.

I think next gen in general sucks.

I liked panzer dragoon orta, jet set radio future, ninja gaiden black, otogi, phantom dust and other games a lot more than what's on 360 aside from Dead Rising and Ninja Gaiden 2. Most of my favorite games on 360 aren't even exclusive!

OK, so in this thread we have people:

-Saying the PS2 was absolute shit
-Saying RPGs all suck rotten sewage
-Saying the SNES has aged horribly
-Saying Sin and Punishment is shit
-Saying Punch Out is only fun for 2 minutes
-Saying nothing good comes from Japan anymore

If this is a typical video game fan's consensus, I weep for the future, and I don't even want to be referred to as a "gamer".  :-\

Halo 3 Recon's trailer looked sick as hell.  I'm really looking forward to this game now.

Somehow I don't think calling it Halo 3 Recon was a good idea, Halo Recon would have made more sense.  I get the feeling that it's a full experience of a game, not just some short expansion.  I'm expecting upgraded graphics and new effects, and enough content to justify a $60 price tag.   I know that Halo 3 was a big game, but just having the word Halo in the title is recognition enough.

Anyway I'll be up at TGS this weekend to give some impressions.

Didn't Wollan used to say it was going to be like an MMO? :lol

GoW3 and (hopefully) Twisted Metal HD probably won't be out for a while.  It isn't like with Microsoft where you know about games they have but haven't shown since those games are almost all Halo games (except for whatever that Cry RPG is).  Sony has that new Team Ico game, the new Jaffe game, GoW3, and others that they aren't showing.  It is a lame time to do the Microsoft thing of showing it the year the game is out.

I think that was Killzone 2, but I believe he got that from someone else. I'm thinking that person probably got wind of M.A.G., but got the wires crossed.

GOW3 and TM wouldn't be at TGS even if they were ready to show.

But where the fuck is Trico? Every goddamn year we hear that THIS'LL be the year, and every year... nothing.

No, it was definitely R2. I don't know if he was talking about the multiplayer or the co op.
