Here's what, imagine Jason Bourne after Ultimatum went on with his life, the dude got a family, became a dad, whatever. One day, someone decides to mess with his daughter. Now imagine Jason Bourne reacting to that.
Fucking balla ass movie, seriously, i loved it, it's not like it's gonna win any awards for the script or anything but everything is simple yet well done like action movies should be.
Just awesome.

I remember seeing stuff for this, did it just come out? I know anything Liam Neeson is in I'll lap it up.

How can you go wrong with a "bad guys threaten/kidnap a hardass' daughter" plot? :bow

A father figure leading a comfortable suburban life getting to act out violently against the bad parts of society in order to protect/avenge the female members of his family = total Republiporn.
And boring, to boot.

This is why you lost the election to Drinky.

Trade: Take Two

Neeson really fucks some dudes up in this. Completely unoriginal, but it does have some damn good action.

"I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.""
hell hath no fury like a father in pursuit of his kidnapped virginal daughter :gun
foreigners :gun
I haven't seen it, maybe I will... but liam neeson's no bells/whistles straight edged intensity probably gives this 'searchers-lite' stuff its boost.

One of the things that stays with you after the movie is how his daughter runs.
She runs like a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, and you wonder if she was doing it on purpose or if she actually runs like that in real life.

A friend said this was pretty awesome as well. It's on my to-buy list.

I watched this tonight. The beginning is terrible. All kinds of terrible. He buys a karaoke machine for his daughters 17th birthday (she looks 25), her mom's new rich dude buys her a horse. They quibble over whether she should be allowed to go to Paris to see some museums... turns out she's going around Europe following U2. Despite concerns raised by Liam Neeson's character, he relents and decides its best not to smother her, and lets her go on her groupie Euro-trip.
I'm afraid that - as a person who has seen Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando - I just can't appreciate any subpar variations of the daughter-has-been-kidnapped formula. Commando keeps it simple: you see a montage of Arnie and the kid eating cerial and laughing, General Kirby arrives to tell Arnie members of his old unit have been killed, and gives him security guards but his home is attacked and his daughter is kidnapped anyway. One liners and violent death ensues. Its CLASSIC.
The beginning of Taken just isn't. Its lame. However, once Neesons daughter is approached by some French weasel it gets real.
She gets kidnapped, taken to a bunch of places where kidnapped girls are raped and hooked on heroin, so they have a dependency on the drugs. Once dependent, they're trafficked to their final destination as a prostitute. We're told from kidnapping, it'll be 96 hours until she's never seen again. Its up to Neeson, to track her down and save her, maiming and killing everyone along the way. Ridiculous Hostel-esque bidding scene, and eye-makeup wearing Albanians aside, its got some good action. Violent, gory action.
I lol'd when he shot the french dude's wife.
I've already planned tomorrow's braindead adrenalin garbage action movie... Death Race!
