The $300 "upgrade" is a joke, but holy balls do I want the glass multitouch pad and non-integrated Nvidia video. BUYING TOMORROW.

TVC will totally stimulate the economy all by himself after today.

I can't help but look at my Pro and feel dirty now
-
I have to buy a new MacBook now. DAMN. The LED backlight alone is worth it for me.
-
Awesome, MacBooks now cost only 3 times their PC equivalents.
-
Still a Mac. Still a shit value.
Like you know anything about anything, Republican.
-
Looks like the one I have cept black on the inside. They'll never recover from MacBook Air lol
-
I'm really not into the black surround, aesthetically :-\
And yeah, :rofl at Apple pricing, as usual, though they do make nice machines (and a great OS).
-
fuck that is hot. i don't think my macbook is ready to go into retirement just yet though... i'll wait for the price drop.
-

I want a Mac for iPhone development (a man can dream, right?) and my current laptop is...4 years old? It's a piece of shit Dell that I wouldn't mind replacing.
-
Possibly getting the $1299 one tomorrow. I might wait for it to pop up on ebay and use that MS cashback thing. SEXY. and just in time to replace my 3 year old piece of shit HP. ::)

Is 9400m any good for gaming? Also, LED backlit monitors are supposed to look better than normal LCDs, right?

go for it. i love my macbook, this new one can only be better.

just from glancing at the graphs, I can't really tell, but I think so. lol

:o removable battery?!
Apple innovation :bow2

If you can actually see what's happening on screen.

God, I hate that this notebook is more powerful than my PC
-
"brightness makes up for it"
my fucking ass steve jobs.
-
Damn, they really did change the Macbook Pro's keyboard to be the same as the Macbook's. Well, I guess I won't have to worry about swapping my Pro for new one. Scissor keys forever! Chiclets never!
:piss Macbook keyboard :piss2
-
Yeah the keyboard is meh, but everything else about both new models make me hard as fuck.
My Pro is only two months old, so I can't feel obligated to switch. This bitch will stay with me for like 5 years.
I just Apple would adhere to MY schedule gawtamit
-
sweet, the mac store is getting them tomorrow. students get a whopping $50 discount. The first thing I'll do is sand paper the gloss off the screen.
-
TVC will totally stimulate the economy all by himself after today.
Nah, I'm kinda pissy with Apple for using proprietary shit and substandard components in their hardware at the moment. They have to come out with a real new hotness if they want my attention again, and it will take more than a really slick visual design.
-
... but can it run Crysis?
-
... but can it run Crysis?
I think Nvidia is unveiling benchmarks of the 9400M tommorow, but I'd guess it will score somewhere around 2000 in 3DMark06 (seeing as what the 9300 scores) thus making it a virtual nono for Crysis. But you could play WoW more then decently.
What about the 9600 on the MacBook Pro?
-
... but can it run Crysis?
Well, my Pro can run Crysis well enough on mainstream settings
-
Is 9400m any good for gaming? Also, LED backlit monitors are supposed to look better than normal LCDs, right?
cant believe your asking that
and no. unless you care to pay 1.5 grand to play TF2 at max settings at 20 fps
-
<----Macbook owner
Apple <3 <3 <3
They make great everything except for phones.
-
the 9400m is a discrete card and not bad at all -- it's roughly equivalent to an 8600m gs, maybe a little better
-
I'm rocking a year-and-a-half old MacBook Pro, and I still love it. I just need to get a bigger HDD...
-

I have that card in my laptop, and it's pretty average. I play shadowrun with it at a good framerate.

God is appearing behind Aurora Borealis....and he looks like J.Allard.

Will someone give me a link to a similar spec Windows laptop? Preferable for less than 1300? I am so tempted by this thing......
-
Apple is basically telling their Pro users to fuck off with this update, instead catering to Joe Six-pack with a shitty gloss version only screen, consumer iMac design, and reduced functionality.
Even the new box is white instead of black.

wtf
-
What is wrong with the new design? Looks pretty damn good to me - aesthetically anyway.

A think the new Dell XPS's will be out soonish and should be comparable. I bought a Lenovo SL400 with similar specs (no led screen, faster processor, 9300m gc) for AU$999 which would be like US$700.
-
They're catering to joe six-pack with a 1300$ laptop ???
Yeah, it's one of the reasons they're so stupid. They changed their Pro line of notebooks to be more attractive to the general consumer but are still pricing it the same as they used to. The MacBook is essentially a 12inch MacBook Pro now. There is no real distinction in product, only in price.
-
It rips off the old toshiba and sony vaio laptop designs. The black keys are generic and tacky. the glossy screen will be impossible to see except in a completely dark room. the ports are on the left side, which is really inconvenient for righties. Apple completely lost its marbles and has no idea what it is doing. Lack of firewire is the biggest mistake in history. it's .1 ghz slower. Only total mac fanboys will purchase this computer and everyone else should go with the original macbook.
At least, that's what the people on engadget told me to think.
but I have a feeling it'll be a different story when I go see it, test it, and probably buy it tomorrow.
only real downers are the lack of firewire and the screen is really glossy.
-
Lucky for me I'm a lefty.
I am just way too indecisive to make any kind of rational decisions lately. :(

aha! but now you won't be able to use the DVD drive because it's *ALL. THE. WAY.* on the right side.
-
Thats ok. I don't even use the DVD drive. I have had 3 drives fail on me in the last two years on 3 different Macs I have owned. Something tells me that Apple doesn't want me to use it - so I don't.
-
i'm just joking around, but yeah, I hope my drive doesn't go down the same path. though I guess I'll rarely use mine too.
-
Give me all black with backlit keys
-
JOEEEEEEEE SIX PACK
-
I'm not a fan of the colors, but fuck it I can deal, and I'd like to replace my current MacBook (only bought about seven months ago!) with the $1599 MacBook model.
Something tells me I'm going to need yet another computer once I move back to the States anyway, so I figure I can get away with giving my current MB to my wife and getting the new one. Maybe.
The glossy screens are fine by the way, guys. I was initially concerned when I tried out some various Mac models in-store and the glare was *HORRIBLE*, then realized it was the ultra-bright store that was doing it. At home and on the road I have not had a problem.
-
The glossy screens are fine by the way, guys.
They're not. Especially if you're concerned with color accuracy.

Right, if you are someone who NEEDS color accuracy. Is that even anyone on this forum?
Of course I would think anyone who needs that wouldn't be doing the kind of work that involves this on a small notebook screen anyway.

exactly. a 13" screen is not the ideal set up for graphic design/photo/video editing. I guess the macbook pro people are a little screwed, but then again, their work environment probably isn't outside in the sun. plus, the LED panel is supposed to help with that.
and i can't freaking wait until my class is over today, wanna go get this thing right nao.
-
Glossy finish-gate was way overhyped, this thing rules, I love everything about it so far.
also runs Crysis at 60fps maxed, which is a nice touch I guess.

That sounds like BS. Even the fastest videocard can't do Crysis Max at 60fps.

naw its true brah
if you put CCC to the highest level with TOD changes, you get 70fps. even with Vsync on. On at full power.

i just bought an 8-core mac pro last week. upgraded that puppy to 10gb of ram... :rock
:bow running vista 64 and playing crisis and warhammer at high settings :bow2
-
Ugliest design Apple has EVER put out. Fucking hideous.
I'm SOOOOOOO happy I bought the all metal Pro when they were still available, if I only had the option of these new models or a PC I'd ACTUALLY pick a PC for the first time in my entire life.
-
Still a Mac. Still a shit value.
Still a better operating system than anything Windows will put out HAHAHA
-
does this thing really run Crysis? :o
Right, if you are someone who NEEDS color accuracy. Is that even anyone on this forum?
the Mac Pro is pretty much the standard laptop students get when they go to Design school. that's what I bought mine for.
this is going to piss off a lot of people.
Although since I dropped out of DAAP I kind of wish I had a glossy screen for ninjavideo n' shit. The new design is really growing on me too all of the sudden.
-
Mac OS has a pretty low bar set for it. Only has to be compatible with Apple configurations, only runs a few things, yeah, thats awesome.
-
If Macs had all the games, I'd trash my windows PC in a second. I'm absolutely in love with this thing. No heat, everything loads up almost instantly, extremely intuitive, mouse gestures, etc. etc. Also, the thing is more sexy in person.
*insert bow and piss section, borys style, here*
-
Is it true that the new macbooks have no firewire input?

Boot Camp solves this problem. It was the main reason why I went back to OSX...Windows is there if you need it.
-
Is it true that the new macbooks have no firewire input?
Yes, it's true. Only the MBPs have them.
-

SMH thats a deal killer right there.

Yeah, I hear ya. That's about the stupidest shit I heard out of the conference.
-
why do I care about firewire??
-
why do I care about firewire??
because!
-
why do I care about firewire??
You probably don't need to. Like the only reason to care about firewire these days is to link Macs together, and that won't be a concern to all you dirty poors that only have one of them. Dead standard is dead.
-
I would trade the current macbook's mouse gestures for firewire. I've never had anyone put a gun to my head and say "Transfer 20gb of info in under 5 hours or I shoot!"
Would be annoying if I was a video artist or musician or someone else who transfers huge files between computers. Otoh, hey, the last gen of macbooks isn't exactly outdated and they're cheaper now. This was a mostly lateral refresh.
