Yup, it looks and feels like an improved unit. The screen is a bit bigger I think too, on top of looking jawesome.

It's about time I bought a 3000 and left my 1000 to homebrew only.  It's too much of a pain to keep up with CFW and play retail games on the same system.

Does this have the same problem as the new Game Boy Advance and the DS Lite, where the colors are just WAY the hell too saturated? (See the greens in Mario Kart, etc). I hear that in the XMB there's a setting you can change for "color space," what's that do?

Dunno but on most TVs, expanded color space just makes the picture look worse.

Has anyone tried playing it through a normal TV through composite cables? Is it scaled up or still windowed?

Those cables better be compatible with the ones for the PSP-2K >:/

Your loss.

The new adapter is roughly 2/3rds as big as the old one, a bit lighter, and while the cable that goes to the outlet is the same size, the cable running to the PSP is thinner and seems to have more flexibility, probably for plugged in play.
Title: Re: Oh God PSP 3000 so AWESOME
Post by: cool breeze on October 16, 2008, 01:08:05 AM
I can live without CFW on my PSP for a while.  It's one of the perks to buying/importing all my psp games on umd...maybe the only perk there is.  Plus, my PSP 2000 (or 1000) aren't going anywhere.  There are some games I probably won't be able to play without CFW like Outrun 2, which is borderline unplayable for me now on UMD without 333.

I'm still playing God of War on my memory stick with GOW in the UMD drive.  Never bothered to check if the MS loaded faster than the UMD, I just assumed it did.

I don't know what games you play, but CFW cuts down load time a lot.  Midnight Club 3 is awesome on the PSP, it's just that the loads times were unbearable until I ripped the umd and put it on my memory stick.

GoW on PSP hardly has any loading with the UMD.  I'm probably gonna replay it on the 3000.

Yes, but I dont play my PSP for long stretches of time. I mostly play Orochi Warriors, puzzle games, shooters...quick stuff. Listen, I had a hacked unit, I decided it wasn't worth MY time, and well there ya go.

I got all excited about getting my GOW PSP hacked but so far, GOW is still the only game on my MS and it came with the PSP.  lol

Basically, I just used my PSP for EB browsing when I'm lying in bed.  I probably don't need an updated screen for that.

I see a PSP bundle is coming with a 4GB stick in November for $199....no game included though.

You can get a 4GB stick off of amazon for 30 bucks now.  I actually found an 8gb for 48 on amazon, not bad.  16GB sticks around 100 but I'm reading they don't work well with PSP right now.  Perhaps a firmware update is needed.  I think I'll bite when I can find a 16GB stick for 50 dollars.

I had traded in Ratchet, so getting it again is kinda neat i guess. Its a solid game but more of the same. I need change I can believe in from that series. I dont plan on storing much so my old 4 gig stick is fine. I just thought it was cheap-o of Sony

AFAIK you can get it at "T-Zone." Ask for it, it's behind the counter.

BTW, what's this I hear about the PSP-3000 having interlacing problems and visible scanlines?  ??? I have yet to try one yet.

if you turn quickly, you can see faint interlacing artifacts on the edges of polygons in high contrast situations. it's not nearly as distracting as ghosting, thankfully, and the only 2D game i've played where it was even slightly visible was sonic 2.

Just updated my PSP-2000 to 5.0

-- Plug PSP into TV via standard composite cables
-- Activate TV-out mode
-- Start PSone game
-- Marvel at the fact that you now actually have a portable Playstation that outputs video just like a Playstation

:bow Actual useful firmware updates :bow2

if you turn quickly, you can see faint interlacing artifacts on the edges of polygons in high contrast situations. it's not nearly as distracting as ghosting, thankfully, and the only 2D game i've played where it was even slightly visible was sonic 2.

gradius generations is a revelation on the thing :bow2

Is the new PSP playable outdoors on a sunny day?

Does it play regular PSP games via TV out composite as well now?

i see prole mentioned it already but fuck this shit. interlacing sucks ass and is a major reason why i can't stand to play some 2d ps2 fighting games (kofxi and battle coliseum).

So I installed CFW 5.00 M33 and played an official PSN Store PS1 game...it's full screen, all right...but blown way up and most of the screen is cut off.  There seems to be no way to adjust this.

Damn, PS1 games are the only ones that work with composite cables on the PSP 2000.  Maybe someone will find a better hack this time...the old one is not working anymore for me under the new firmware.

The PSP Store on PSP is excellent. Too bad that agreeing to the EULA takes a full ONE MINUTE TWENTY SECONDS to scroll through  :maf

WTF when you download a game from PSN on PSP, it still has to install it in a lengthy and annoying process

Yup, I got the new CFW that was released. Really slick interface and it loads incredibly quick. I wish they would pay an inkling of attention though of what content is on available. I downloaded the Resistance PSP trailer only to find that it was a trailer being played on a PSP, thus only displaying the footage on a whole square inch.

Does the screen really have less ghosting? That's the main reason I have interest in the 3000.

It's what I hear.  I know someone who got one and says the ghosting seems non-existent, but then the scanline issue takes its place as the "new ghosting."   :-\

BTW did they change something with the network functions in 5.0?  I was never able to connect to the internet using my MacBook as an access point before, but surprisingly it works now!   :o

With 5.0, PSP-2000 now goes into USB mode and starts charging automatically as soon as you plug in a USB cable!

Holy crap, I thought the shots on the left were from the 2000!   :o

But since you can turn the color mode to the same setting as the 2000 model, it doesn't really matter.  Use the new setting for the games that look good with it is all.  Still not getting one until they are hacked though.  If I get one, that is.

I did pick up the new stamina battery today.  When did these come out?  It says it extends PSP 2000 and 3000 series' battery life by 80%.

Still waiting to hear about the TV output thing.  Is it just the PS1 game I tried?  Is it a PSP 2000 CFW issue?

What's the mAh rating on it?  I'm pretty sure the slim battery I bought earlier this year only had a 40% bump or something. If there's a new one, I want it.

2200 mAh.  It's the same size as the old 1000 series batteries and comes with a new battery cover that makes the right back side stick out a little bit.  I like this because it lets my 2000 fit comfortably in my old 1000 series Logitech case (with a little padding for the left side)

that's the same mAh as mine...does it say 80% on the box?  maybe they're better somehow?

Mine gets like 6-8 hours depending.

Could just be Sony marketing bullshit then.  These are definitely new as they list PSP 1000/2000/3000 on the box.  Guess I must have missed the original release earlier on.  I thought these weren't out yet!

The fucked up colours is something you can disable, right?

Yes, but apparently the scanline issue remains no matter what setting you use.  There are even more pic comparisons floating around and I am glad I didn't buy a 3000 now.

I would probably trust you two more than the other pixel counter people out there, but I'm still glad I held off buying the silver one at launch.  Well, I never planned to in the first place because I already have a Silver slim PSP and it looks bad.  I hope that if there actually is a problem (I haven't seen it in person yet), it does get fixed before I buy the black entertainment bundle.

It's a minor hardware update and it looks like they have essentially traded one problem for another.  And if it still isn't hackable yet, who gives a fuck?  Until it is the 2000 series is where it's at.

why would anyone looking to upgrade want to trade off one flaw for another? that's fucking dumb.

sony could get the f'n screen right if they really wanted to, but i guess they don't.

Can't you switch between the different color modes if you don't like the enhanced style? what is that IGN review talking about?
Title: Re: Oh God PSP 3000 so AWESOME
Post by: bork on October 25, 2008, 01:09:56 AM
You can but the scanline issue is still there.  It looks horrific in screenshots but then the ghosting shown does too and it isn't that bad.  I can't judge it until I play one for myself, but the fact that there is this much of an outcry over it means something is up.

Title: Re: Oh God PSP 3000 so AWESOME
Post by: Jansen on October 25, 2008, 05:29:42 AM
how is the ign review stupid? the reviewer clearly states that he noticed the scanline issues right away. given the wording of the review he would have noticed the issue even if no one had complained about it already.
