Title: I can hear the Doctor Who pinball machine calling. . .
Post by: TVC15 on October 17, 2008, 06:52:17 PM
Is this the only real reason to go to Portland?  Is this what my life's come to?

Also, if I drive all the way the fuck down there, I want to hit up Astoria to see the Goonies house, but that appears to be like, out of the way and shit :(

I'm trying to plan this most effectively, but it appears to be difficult to hit both Astoria and Portland on the same 1-day trip what with the daylight shrinking.  I could do it if I woke up early, but LOL.

I guess I can deal with Portland in the dark if it came to that, but I'd like it to be light when I arrive to make it easier to figure out where the fuck I'm going.

OMG Doctor Who pinball is one of the best.  It's no Mars Attacks or Twilight Zone, but still. :-*

Here's the list of machines and arcade games:

I dunno, MAF, getting to Portland is really easy, it's nailing Astoria and Portland in one trip that's difficult.

I can't remember if you WA guys have sales tax or not.

But if you do, you can buy some expensive stuff in Portland.  They have no sales tax.

TVC, drive down to visit me, Patel and Cohen.  I'll buy you a 4x4 at In-N-Out, which Demi loves so much.

I think it took me a week to get from CA to WA but that was during a family trip, so we made lots of stops.  I still remember eating at Thirteen Coins the first night we got to Seattle.  The meal tasted great 'cause I was so damn hungy.

Yeah, I'm totally bringing nice cameras to capture the sweet art.

I haven't seen it in ages but I remember there was an action/group shot of the doctors as the main image on the headboard thing, and a line of smaller portrait style pictures of each doctor underneath it

the current #1 hipster hangout in wellington has a pinball table called 'Whodunnit?'. The art portrays a generic gumshoe type, but looks eerily like Clive Owen!

zomg found a pic

I am shocked, SHOCKED by the lack of Cybermen.  Along with Davros and the Daleks and the Master, the Cybermen are one of the biggest villains.

They also have an Addams Family table.  Not rare by any means, but still fuck awesome.

I was gonna mention this

:bow ADDAMS FAMILY PINBALL :bow2

that is my fave of allllll time

I am also partial to the Indiana Jones table for God knows what reason. I guess you just love what was in the pizza parlors you visited as a child

I would LOVE to own an authentic pinball machine (as well as a Ms. Pac-Man cocktail) but maintaining a pinball machine is a BITCH

:'( real-world physics :'(

It would be cool if you could make pinball machines in LBP.

OK, Ground Kontrol is about a fifteen-minute walk from my workplace.  should I amble down there and put a bunch of quarters into the Dr. Who machine?  I used to be semi-alright at pinball, but my last few tries were abysmal.  it's fun anyway.

The story of my trip to Portland and Astoria:

I woke up today at approximately 2PM, severely hung over thanks to Patel encouraging me to drink last night.  I consumed the remainder of a bottle of bacardi rum (let's say about a half a bottle) with some diet pepsi (which doesn't work as well as the non-diet variety).  Upon waking up, I mucked around on the computer for a half hour or so, drank some gatorade, and passed out until 4.  Thinking I could still make it to at least Portland and back, I made sure my satchel was filled with books and computers, made sure my pelican case was full (http://photos-815.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v364/71/5/500076815/n500076815_1394458_173.jpg) and drove off.  After nabbing some food, I saw it was almost like, 5, and figured it was probably too late to drive to Portland and back.  It would be a waste of a trip unless I was staying over night.  So I went to the liquor store and bought a larger bottle of bacardi rum and a 2 liter bottle of Coke.  Then I went home and watched Escape from LA, and I really doubt Portland is much more entertaining than that.
