Title: "we'll keep you on file." -- do i have a chance?
Post by: cloudwalking on October 22, 2008, 02:15:03 PM
so, long story short, i applied for a pretty cool-sounding job. sent my application on monday. i had a really good feeling about it after having kind of crappy luck for the past couple of weeks.

today, i got an e-mail back telling me that the job was filled already last friday. however, the lady also mentioned that she'd keep my application on file and get in touch with me if she happened to need someone in the near future.

in the experience of the fine people of evilbore -- do people actually do this? or is it something they just say? it would have been a great job, really close to where i live, in a nice area, with a nice building. this is the first time i've applied for a "real" job and not just some retail gig or something. i'm not sure how it works.

when i actively pursue women, this is what they usually tell me. I'm still single.

It has never happened for me, although I guess technically there's a chance.

I've always assumed they're talking about file 13.

well, the fact that they even bothered to reply gave me some hope, because usually i just get nothing if they're not in the least interested.

guess i better start editing my cover letter again though :'(

Depends on the job. In your case, no, you didn't get it. Guess it's time to set up that webcam...

Same here.

My uncle knew someone that was offered a job over a full-year after interviewing, I just would not count on it.

We should have a resume thread for tips and tricks, and can set up a peer review or something

When I say that, it's because I liked the person, and I want to keep them somewhat enthusiastic in the off change something changes and I'll need somebody with that profile.

But hey, I just make shit up as I go along.

I've seen my company actually make callbacks out of that list before, but not often. But usually here those that get put there are people qualified for the job, but didn't score as high on a test or have as good an interview or resume as the person hired.

But my advice is to go ahead and look for another job. While it does happen, it seems to be pretty common that it doesn't.

In my experience they most likely won't ring again.  But my experience is in small businesses, like under 10 employees.
