My 360 is scratching my discs. None of them have become unplayable (yet) but it's bugging the shit out of me. I have a falcon model that was manufactured in November of '07. I think it has the Hitachi disc drive which I read was problematic. I was wondering if I should get this one repaired, trade it into gamestop and buy a new arcade system or wait it out until Nov. 19 when I can install games onto the HDD.

you should still be under warranty. just get it repaired

aren't repaired systems just refurbs that are basically ticking timebombs?

I did this too. I don't know what model I had but it was one of the noisier units, bought in summer 2007. It started stuttering and freezing every now and then, so I bought a new arcade unit last week, added in my old hard drive, and sold my old unit today. It cost me 20,000 yen for the system and I got 6000 yen for my old one (it has no wireless controller and didn't have the docs, plus the box was ripped on the inside so they took off 2000 yen, the fucks). I wanted to get a wireless controller anyway, which is around 4000 yen, so it basically cost me 10,000 yen or about $100 to swap it out for a new one. Not too bad.

you can try to get it repaired. i say try because if they can't replicate the problem you're having at the repair center there is a high chance they'll just send it back unfixed (yes they do occasionally test them).
