Title: Download new 180 drivers from Nvidia for Far Cry 2
Post by: Smooth Groove on October 23, 2008, 09:07:17 PM
Far Cry 2 is like twice as fast with this driver update.  Game still doesn't look too good though.  I'll have impressions later.

Nvidia still lists it as 178 for the 8800gt

Yes.  I've tried it already.  It works great for FC2.

I'm impressed. Using Ultra High Settings and the Ultra High Settings with shadows set to Very High I get about 7 more FPS with the 180 drivers. Awesome find Smooth Groove! I'm gonna have to check out some other games and see if their FPSes improved too.

Sweet, movement with the mouse isn't weird like it used to be with these new drivers. Aiming is going to be so much easier now!

Erm, the only problem I have with the beta 180 drivers is that I can't change my GPU fan speed. ???

that's close to what I have, except I have an e6750 overclocked to 3.0mhz, 2gb ram, and XP.  The screens I saw of FC2 weren't the greatest, so I'm a little surprised at the results.  I'll still get it eventually, I guess.

how does it compare to Crysis warhead, gameplay wise?

Crysis to me is more of a suit powers game. If Crysis didn't have suit powers, I wouldn't enjoy it as much. Graphically the game is amazing, though. Crysis is linear and story-driven.

Far Cry feels like more of a sandbox game to me. Big map with multiple places to go and lots of missions to do.
