Electronics Arts Inc. said Friday it closed a deal with Universal Pictures to bring its video game Army of Two to the big screen.
Redwood City-based EA (NASDAQ:ERTS) did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
Scott Stuber, through his Stuber Productions shingle, will produce the film along with EA, and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, who co-wrote "The Bourne Ultimatum," has signed on to adapt the game for the screen.
The game follows a pair of former Army soldiers turned mercanaries that seek to topple a conspiracy to privatize the U.S. military.
The game's hallmark is the use of two-man tactics, whether it is two human players or a human player and a computer-controlled partner. The two character must work together to achieve goals within the game.
Universal Pictures, Stuber Productions and EA are planning to begin production of the film in 2009.
EA said Army of Two grossed more $100 million in sales since its release in March 2008 and is the second film project the company is using in a strategy to move its IP across more entertainment platforms.
The company is also currently developing The Sims at 20th Century Fox with producer John Davis.
Universal Pictures is part of the NBC Universal conglomerate, which is controlled by General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE).
Oh and a Sequel has been announced as well. Did anyone even like this game?

EA ain't fucking around when it comes to these movie adaptions. They already got a live action Dead Space movie in the works in addition to the animated shit, and now Army of Two.
What's next? Mirror's Edge movie?
I'd actually like to see that.

I liked the game too. I'd definitely go see a movie. All they gotta do is make Bad Boyz meets Die Hard and it'll be fine.

I didn't know about the Dead Space movie. I actually want to see that.
oh, and a campy Red Alert movie would be hilarious.

I'm shocked that EA hasn't tried to
-buy a movie studio
-merge with a movie studio
-start their own movie studio
If EA can keep on this kickass path, I think we might be in for a real treat. Hopefully the next CEO doesn't completely fuck everything up.
You can see how well that worked out for Square. Seeing how videogame movies usually bomb, it's probably better for them to just let some major studio absorb all the risk.

Seems like every game has had a movie announced for it, but none see the light of day, besides max payne and postal.

Bad Boys 2 goes to Iraq.
Basically, take the last part of Bad Boys 2 and make a movie about it.
