All Seagate FreeAgent externals have a 5 year warranty (http://review.zdnet.com/product/hard-drives/seagate-freeagent-xtreme-1tb/33300463) when bought at their "authorized retailers" (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Seagate_Technology_Authorized_Retailers&vgnextoid=9163f7f528b7c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD). Can't speak from personal experience on the reliability of Seagates in specific though. No external really lasts forever anyway.

Trust me, WD drives are the way to do. My 300 GB has been chugging along for two years and counting.
