All Seagate FreeAgent externals have a 5 year warranty (http://review.zdnet.com/product/hard-drives/seagate-freeagent-xtreme-1tb/33300463) when bought at their "authorized retailers" (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Seagate_Technology_Authorized_Retailers&vgnextoid=9163f7f528b7c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD). Can't speak from personal experience on the reliability of Seagates in specific though. No external really lasts forever anyway.
