EA Announces Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box
Friday October 31, 7:00 am ET
Experience the Ultimate Social Driving Game in One Box
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Criterion Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) studio announced today Burnout™ Paradise The Ultimate Box – a special edition release that includes the award-winning Burnout™ Paradise game plus the previously-released Burnout™ Paradise Cagney and Burnout™ Paradise Bikes content updates, and the brand new Burnout™ Paradise Party content. Burnout Paradise Party is an offline multiplayer mode designed to allow up to eight friends to “pass-the-pad” in dozens of Burnout challenges. For players that already own Burnout Paradise, Burnout Paradise Party will be sold separately as downloadable content.
Burnout Paradise Party brings the social fun of Burnout Paradise into an offline environment where friends can pass the pad to play competitively. There are dozens of quick-fire, turn-based challenges where players compete in different stunt, speed and skill events. In addition to Burnout Paradise Party, Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box will include a host of new features including a restart option added for racing, easier control of the early vehicles, and for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system the new Burnout™ Paradise Network. Burnout Paradise Network is another Burnout Paradise social innovation that enables players to keep track of friends and keep up with all the latest Burnout news from either inside or outside the game.
“Whether you’re an experienced player or a gaming novice, Burnout Paradise is a game that anyone can enjoy,” says Pete Lake, Senior Producer at Criterion Games. “With The Ultimate Box, we aimed to deliver the most fun, high quality and high value experience possible to players both online and in the living room.”
Burnout Paradise Party will be on display and available for free play at EA’s booth during the London Games Festival in Trafalgar Square from Oct 31 – Nov 1, 2008.
Developed at Criterion Games in Guildford, England, Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box is rated E10+ by the ESRB and 7+ for PEGI. Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box will be available in February 2009 on the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and marks the debut of the game on PC. For more information about the game, please go to http://www.criteriongames.com or http://info.ea.com.

:rock RESTARTING RACES :rock
-
If you need to restart races in Burnout Paradise you are either:
1) Going for the Elite license, aka you hate yourself.
2) Not doing it right.
I got through the Burnout class without ever driving back to restart a race. If I was going to lose I just stopped for 5 seconds to end the race and pulled up to the next intersection and started a new one.
Anyhow I guess it doesn't hurt to have a restart option. But people made a far bigger deal out of it then it actually mattered.
And anyone who hasn't played this needs to. Runner up GoTY in 2007.

I'm fine with not doing it right!

I hear you and it's been argued to death but what if there is no event at "the next intersection". Reading the threads IIRC there was one event that took you really out of the way and then the game forces you to drive back to restart it. When I pick this up I will definitely try and play it the intended way and just use restarts for cases as given in my example.

Hey folks … great to be back on the only blog that counts (apart from the one you’ll find at www.criteriongames.com, of course).
We’re continuing to support Burnout Paradise through 2009. The fun starts with our Burnout Paradise Party Pack in Feb and will be followed by our awesome Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars Pack.
This year, we’ve introduced some of the most incredible vehicles yet seen in a Burnout game. Our FREE Cagney pack brought you the crazy Steel Oval Racer and the Hippie Wagon, and the FREE Bikes Pack introduced motorcycles to Paradise City for the first time ever.
In 2009, we’re taking Burnout vehicles to the next level with some truly unbelievable new vehicles. First up – The Jansen 88 Special.
This classic 1980’s styled silver sports car is based on the fan-favourite Jansen P12, but we’ve made a few interesting modifications.
Special Drive
Fill the gauge and hit boost to trigger burning flame trails from your back wheels. The 88 Special’s fast, manoeuvrable and great in the air.
In fact, if you want to take off, this is just the car for you. Hit L3 to switch to hover mode – the wheels retract and the car takes off and hovers through Paradise City at head height.
Seriously. It hovers.
Special Flying
This is the first of 4 cars that we’re making available as part of a wealth of new downloadable content for Burnout Paradise. They’re available to buy individually or discounted, if you pick up the whole set. In addition to the Jansen 88 Special, look out for the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk!
We’ll bring you details and footage of these in a future post or on Crash TV (our video podcast), and we’ll be back next week with another killer announcement for next year’s awesome Burnout Paradise content.
And as always, we’re on hand for a while to answer your questions below!

HOLY GOD THATS AWESOME

"Seriously. It hovers." :lol
So good.
-
Fuck if they charged $20 for that car I'd pay it.
-
Holy Shit
Flying Car
Holy Shit
:o :o :o
-
I was a fan of Burnout Paradise to begin with, but this might get me to double dip (I traded in my copy awhile ago).
-
I will purchase this flying car. I will get US Marketplace points in my damned account in advance of this DLC becoming available.
Good grief; this is the weirdest business model I've ever seen for a game. It's crazy cheap now, they're STILL putting out free content for it, and the first paid DLC hits over a year after launch? And I still want it?

I may get this now. :-*

I'll get it when that restart option is added - apparently it comes out when that new version is, which isnt until like Feb 09 which is gay
