I'll be in a similar situation to you. The way I thought about it is joining some sporting club (a first for me) just so I can keep fit and not be tempted to be sit inside all day and meet people apart those from work. Try and not to make work mates your 'inner circle' even though how tempting and easy it may be.

The joining clubs thing is good though, it depends if your just joining the club to meet new people or are genuinely interested in whatever hobby if it's the sceond it shouldn't really matter if the people are jackoffs.

Writing a book is another option I have thought about just to pass the time. And get a girlfriend.

It's really not that difficult to make new friends.  Just hang out in bars and clubs.  And I'm sure you'll get a clue from a coworker or something.  If you don't live in an urban area and none of this applies, you could be fucked, though.  If you're in an urban area, chances are you could relativelye asily find people to your tastes.

Pretty much this, especially if your workplace has one. I gained like 30 lbs doing jack shit at work for like 6 months and lost it all back thanks to rec leagues.

Back when I was a workout freak, I would meet people at the gym. The conversations were usually boring (revolving around health and fitness) but sometimes you could run into someone that had other interests.

I'll be doing the same, only I'll be the turn-around manager, ruining my chances of making friends at work.

I think I'll do a combination of working way too much, playing way too much games on my own, and regular bar hopping.

You could go on your local CraigsList and look for casual encounters!

For people who have go to bars: do chicks normally come up to you and start conversations, or do you go to them and start them? I kinda want to check a bar out; I've been to a few with friends but they were rather meh

the standard is still apparently that the man is supposed to do the approaching, not that I ever do.  if you're above average looking, as I guess I am, women will still approach you occasionally, but you can't really count on it.

I might do this. I've been wanting to bag an older lady for awhile, what better place to do it than a bar
