Okay so...
I've never played Ultima V. A lot of people have never played Ultima IV or VI, either.
Most of the big name games coming out this fall are kind of ass and poo, so it seems like a good opportunity to get my Ultim-on.
What's the best way to play Ultima IV, V, and VI at this point in time?
DOSBox the original games?
Play them in an emulated client, a la Exult for Ultima VII?
Play one of the modernized remakes, a la Dungeon Siege mod Lazarus?
I'm a few years out of date when it comes to the Ultima scene so, tell me how to play the Ultima V.

Ultima 4 is one of the greatest true RPGs ever made.
I don't know if you need DOSbox or not. The game is turn based so it's not like speed is too much of a problem. I somewhat recently played Ultima 5 raw and I remember it running without issues.
These games are awesome but the whole "ye olde English" is kind of annoying to go back to.
-
yeah, Ultima IV is one of my favorite games ever
I just had a SHIT PC that could not run Ultima V properly so I missed it at the time :/
-
general consensus for 1-6 seems to be to run the original software using DOSBox
http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1
I'm just grabbing Ultima V from my friend in Spain
May try to get the MIDI pack working: http://exodus.voyd.net/download.html#u5

I support this thread. Ultima is the greatest RPG series ever, imo.
Most of the games in the series are still very playable. Everything from VI onwards still looks good, except for the last game, of course.
Even back then, IX's 3d graphics made me :yuck

wow, synchronicity! i just dl'ed ultima v (dosbox edition) onto my dell mini a couple hours ago.

any protips? D-Fend appears to have fallen off the map; any recommended DOSBox front end?
-
I still use D-Fend, it works well enough to suit my purposes.

Talking about Ultima makes me wanna play Wing Commander as well. Origins was such an amazing company.

I don't like the graphics in VI and VII, it's that really angular perspective that just looks weird. I fully support this thread, Ultima = best WRPG series ever.

omg, I was thinking about Ultima too
-
i downloaded this to play a while ago but couldn't find the time
and now i can't as my back log is even larger thanks to FO3 pushing other games back out into the pile
-
SO whatsup? I've download DosBox and found my copy of Utlima Collection. I'm Playing through False Prophet right now, taken down some gingergoyles.
I've never played any Ultima before Ultima VI though. I remember playing gimped SNES version of Ultima VI back in the day :-[
-
I was thinking about doing it, but then...Fallout 3.
-
I just robbed the royal mint in Ultima VI. Take that Lord British, I'm taxin' yo' ass.
-
I only ever played VII and UO. Lotta, lotta UO.
-
I tried to play UO on a free shard but apparently people make a living off of killing newbs ;_; I liked living the simple life of a miner, aspiring to make great equipment.
-
The legitimate shards were like that too, except there were fewer outright murderers roaming around the town perimeters as there were far more people ready to gang up and overpower them were they to get too close. Besides, there isn't any serious detriment to getting killed -- you just needed to be careful of what you carry.

Hey EA: Ultima Collection on Steam for $30. DO IT.

I cant believe I missed that ewok
