His fifth album and he's really hitting his stride. Melodic and exploratory, each song is mesmerizing in itself. The 14 tracks are built on short stores, but the music is so good that you might not even notice the lyrics until your third listen to the album.

Can't stop listening to this one. I've always had an affinity for country, but real country, not this poppy shit you hear today on the radio/CMT and all that. While this isn't 100% "real country", it's a catchy, accessible album that is one of my favorites of 2006 so far. Had this for a while, but never really listened to it until now. And all because I heard "I Turn My Camera On" used in some stupid car commercial. Funky track. "Sister Jack" is very good, as is "Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine", and a couple of others I can't be bothered to recall now.

I absolutely love that song. The rest of the album is okay, but isn't really up to the quality of that first song. I'm hoping the rest of the album grows on me . I'm also thinking about checking them out live, 'cause they're playing near me in a couple of weeks. Hmmm..

I consider "Head Home" almost as good as "Roscoe", perhaps hampered only by the duration of the refrains toward the end. But, I love the chorus melody, especially the "But there's someone I'd like to see, she never mentions a word to me, she reads Leviathan" part. It's unfortunate that the rest of the album has extremely little in common with those two songs. I hope Midlake realizes their potential before their next release.

Was it Fox Confessor Brings The Flood? That's the latest one. I've only heard the samples on Amazon, and a couple full songs on her website, "Hold On, Hold On" and "Star Witness" http://www.nekocase.com/music/. I really like that wonderful melody in "Hold On, Hold On", and from what I've heard of the other songs, it sounds like a winner for sure. I'm gonna be out tomorrow morning near Target, and they have it there for 10 bucks, so I think I'm gonna pick it up.

The Knife - Silent Shout
Man, this album can be downright creepy listening, and it's still daytime... I wonder what it will be like at night :o. It's like electro-pop possessed by the devil that someone forty years in the future living in a dreary Blade Runner-esque world would be listening to. "Marble House" has to be one of the greatest songs ever created. (p.s. DL Marble House from my first post above)

I love DragonForce. I go through music genre phases, so in 2-3 months I'll probably be listening to nothing but metal. Also love SYL's "Wrong Side." Too bad the rest of the album didn't quite match the greatness of that song.

S.Y.L.'s The New Black is pretty good. It wasn't as good as Alien and I feel/know The New Black was a rush job. S.Y.L. was told by the record company that they had to have a new album out this year to be on the Ozzfest. I think the same was said for BTBAM who just released an album of cover songs. The covers are real close to the originals so it's not even worth getting. I guess it was a way for BTBAM to stick it to the record company.

It's more of a movement than a band. I suppose if you can accept that they're not trying to be music in a traditional sense, then it may stick on you.

This issue with this board is that threads are structured like GAF. There, you really have no choice but to list your opinion and forget the thread in question. . .unless you have way too much time on your hands to hit the reload button.
Traffic here is a lot slower. This board could use something, and I guarantee it isn't hyperactive moderation.

I'm confused. Are you saying the way the forum is structured or the lack of a dedicated feature telling you what topics have new posts? If it's the latter, that'll be fixed with our new layout/software update. If it's the forum, I'd be open to hearing suggestions.

On GAF you can just hit "User CP" and see what threads you've subscribed too (which Automatically happens when you've posted in a thread). This is how I keep track of what threads I post in and reply to comments focused at me.
Here I just use the "Show New Replies to Your Post" link at the top, in the User Info area. I still find GAF more friendly when it comes to tracking threads you've subscribed too though.

I used to be like "wtf, why does he like this chick rock band" and then I listened to more than just Portions for Foxes, bought the album, and now I absolutely love More Adventurous. Diablos: Rilo Kiley was recommended to me by GAF when I was back in AZ, and I too was pleasantly surprised. I dont like when the dude sings too much cause I simply adore Jenny Lewis' vocals. I crappy my pants with joy when I first got to listen to Rabbit Fur Coat. The Rilo Kiley CDs have a really nice range of music much like Give Up by the Postal Service.

I really, really loved Extraordinary Machine. It's funny because the only reason I looked into her was because I had heard one of Dr Dre's production partners (in this case, his bass producer) was producing the album; I had no idea it would entertain me as much as it did. Like you said, it's just extremely varied, and you aren't forced to listen to a single plus 6 other songs that sound just like the single, but worse.
After that I explored her early work, and I must say I'm just blown away. Her voice catches your attention, which is very important. Many of the great artists in music history have a very distinctive voice that doesn't sound like anyone else; no one sounds like Stevie Wonder except Stevie Wonder, no one sounds like Sam Cooke except Sam Cooke, etc. Today many artists seem content in sounding like everyone else or past greats. Apple's raspy, powerful voice is truly an original work of beauty. You can't say that about many current artists; outside of Fiona Apple, Nora Jones comes to mind imo.

I can basically listen to the entire album from beginning to end, despite some of the more lackluster mixes. It's kind of hard to ruin some of these songs though, so it's all good.

Awesome album. Outside of the ill placed second single ("Go"), this album is fantastic. Common is easily one of the top 3 rappers in the business right now, period.
