thanks to the GAF thread i found out they are remaking JSA
except on the american / mexican border instead
Can't wait for the hammer fight scene to become the broken 40oz bottle fight scene
Watch the girl be his wife, but he can't recognize her because he got amnesia. Or something.

I just don't see the point in remaking it. Its not the type of movie that you can keep what makes it special and make it a mainstream success at the same time.
what is JSA?an earlier, and fully awesome Chan-Wook Park movie. Its about an unlikely friendship that develops between two pairs of border guard post watchers, one of them North Korean, the other South Korean, its also a murder mystery/thriller. Unlike his other films its very warm and humane, but doesn't skimp on the directorial flashiness. The title stands for Joint Security Area, the place where all the action happens.

I wonder if they will change the [spoiler*incest*/spoiler] part of the stroyline, which is basically the entire movie.

I will tell this to my Korean roomie and see how he responds.he might not care. Park's films have been successful in Korea, JSA was the highest grossing film of its year, but his last film was a flop (the so far unreleased in America I'm A Cyborg, But That's Okay) and his Vengeance trilogy plateaued in popularity with Lady Vengeance, not Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was another bomb. He's in the top-tier of commercially successful Korean filmmakers, and he's in the top-tier of internationally known Korean filmmakers, but he's not the biggest fish in the pond, at least not right now (Universal will see to it that his latest film gets great distribution worldwide).

Now if you told your buddy that they're remaking The King and the Clown (highly popular gay friendly costume tragicomedy) as a vehicle for Steve Carell, he might get really steamed(they're not, its a joke). Or you could just remind him that the My Sassy Girl remake was apparently bad enough to go straight to video, or that Dragon Wars is still the highest grossing international Korean film ever, or that Lee Byung-Hun gets to be 13th billed in the G.I. Joe movie, behind Marlon Wayans even.
(ends sleepily made Korean film tirade)
My roomie says it's cool that Spielberg and Smith will be doing it, "they are very famous and will bring attention to Korea and Korean culture" he doesn't seem to care they will change the movie.
I'm pretty big Will Smith defender but man this is going to end badly. If anyone can pull this off, it's Big Will.
Isn't incest in the bible?
