Sega is closely tracking North American and European sales. They'd like to make a sequel, but people need to buy the first one. We're getting ALL the DLC levels early next year, though.
In other news that makes me believe that Sega is aiming Valkyria to be the new Sakura Wars, Aniplex's A-1 studio is gearing up to create an anime series for Spring 2009.

I did my part bought the game and the guide. Love the art style of this game. The depth of this game is really something else. Its both simplistic and yet challenging. Not so much frustration, but rather there's multiple ways to go about completing a match. The classes are nice and varied as well. I'd been stalking the japanese copy of the game at my local import store for a while when I didn't have a ps3. I was happy to hear about it coming out here. Picked my copy up day one full price!

how does the DLC work? Are they extra missions that you can tackle aside from the main game, or is there a skirmish mode you unlock later that they add on to (I haven't unwrapped my copy yet)?

Extra missions.
The Japanese version of Valkyria Chronicles had two downloadable packs. The first was a side story episode starring Edie, and the second one places players in the shoes of the villains against the protagonists. There was also an Extra Hard skirmish mode. The prices for these packs were 600 yen (US $5.60), 800 yen (US $7.50), and 300 yen (US $2.80), respectively.

Already had price drop on Amazon, probably 40 everywhere by December.
Valkyria can be purchased for $45 at Circuit City, and it's much longer than Mirror's Edge.

Sega is so stupid that they put out an awesome looking game like Kenzan and don't bother to bring it to America and instead make two shitty Wii Sonic game instead of one.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm feels like a sonic game half the time.
