god has taken my precious hp dv9535 17" laptop from me. i installed sacred 2 on it, fired it up, the visuals suddenly artifacted, and several reboots later, i still can't make anything come up on the screen. the 8600M video chip in it has fried, and that's the one part i can't replace. even worse, it's out of warranty. EUROPEAN DIABLO CLONES WIN AGAIN!
:'( :'( :'(
best laptop i ever owned, and i put that thing through hell -- used it far more than myown desktop. hell, i knew the 8X00M line of mobile video chipsets were crap -- nvidia had a recall on 'em -- but this baby kept on chugging through games. i'd even swapped about the godawful t5250 proc with a t7500, so i had some skin in this one.
:'( :'( :'(
bad times. if i could sacrifice arvie or methodis to resurrect it, i would!

would that i had supported supply-side jesus in his hour of need :'(

well, i just replaced it with the ugliest laptop ever -- an asus dv81. really good specs, though, for $1100 total: p8400 dual-core @ 2.3ghz, 9600m gt 1 gb, 4 gb ddr2-800, 320 gb 7200 rpm drive, 15" screen. on the other hand, ghastly brown case and this horrible gradient ramp effect on the sides. ah well.

I for one do not believe he was that important in his carear, but still, RIP man.

From what I've read it's a good graphics card, good enough for what I'm going to be playing (WoW, HL2, gonna get COD4). I heard the 8600 wasn't a great card for games?
-
Thanks for thinking about me though buddy :-*

it's a mobile card with a 128-bit bus. maybe medium settings, 30 fps, 1280x800? it's no perf beast -- it's roughly comparable to a 7800GT w/ shader 4.0 support.

yeah, this is comparable, spec-wise, to a top-of-the-line macbook pro, even if it looks like it was assembled in a cat's litterbox
-
Prole, how's the laptop I asked you about?
-
sorry for your loss, and DEAR GOD that replacement does look ugly as sin.

it is definitely the smart girl you'd never fuck even when drunk :'(

you do not need a 600w PSU, that's overkill. And remember that the power rating is only half of it, the effenciency rating is important too.

It's already ordered; I wanted something durable and powerful so that when I upgrade my graphics card again I won't need to buy another psu as well.

the 8600 is fine for wow and new games on medium settings
