Title: Anyone Else Watching "Whale Wars"?
Post by: drozmight on November 17, 2008, 12:49:07 AM
I think it's entertaining.  In the first episode a woman on the ship was on the phone with Greenpeace and got all frustrated saying, "WE DON'T NEED YOU. THE WHALES NEED YOU... TO PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASSSSS!!!!"

Oh ho ho ho ho!  Plus this cock tease at the beginning got me really interested:

Pretty much.

Japan should send one of those WWII super battleships to escort their whaling fleet... that'd make for good television.

Soooo can the Japanese pretty much just shoot them since they're in international waters or what?

I'm not sure.  Maybe.

We need us a maritime lawyer.

Maybe when he boards he'll be taken into the belly of the ship, hoisted up with some chains and used as a punching bag by some burly japanese whalers.

well according to maritime law, it's illegal to carry a gun aboard a merchant ship.  Some cruise lines hire mercenaries to sail alongside the boat and those mercenaries could of course carry and use firearms.

why I don't understand is, why don't they try to physically destroy the boats?  I mean, it would more effective to just shoot an RPG and sink the fuckers instead of throw butter at them, and then hey - that's one less boat out there killing whales.  These dudes just need to be more hardcore :gun

Scuttling (physically sinking) ships has been a tactic used in the past, but the consequences for getting caught are extreme and detrimental to the cause.

Narwhals would be jumping the ships and impaling whalers one by one while the other whale species do their best to puncture the hull.  Then the dolphins would show up like the Rohirrim to aid their cousins and puncture boats with large chunks of ice.

The whale war saga continues...
