No, but it's still pretty awesome.
I don't remember the last time I busted out laughing so many times while watching a movie. Perhaps it's because the movie hits home on so many levels. I'm familiar with the comic world, and I have lesbian friends as well.
Most of the dialogue is extremely witty, funny, and engaging. Although, there are some areas that fall into cliche territory where it seems like Smith was bullshitting; mainly the whole emo "are you going to choose me, your best friend, or the lesbo!?!?" parts. Everything else hit its target very well.
Ben Affleck is pretty awesome. I can't believe I'm saying that, but it's true: the man is awesome in this movie. He takes on the role in a totally believable way. All the acting serves its purpose well, except for the chick. When she starts trying to yell/cry...god damn what's her problem? Very annoying.
Overall, just a sweet movie. I've been sniping at Kevin Smith for years, but now I'm truly a believer. This is the first Smith movie I've seen, but it won't be the last.

No
-
Hell no.
-
I guess not
-
That movie is an emotionally manipulative dump a' dookie.
-
I agree it's not the greatest. Read my post dammit.
TVC doesn't like the movie because he's secretly in love with a woman.
-
That movie is an emotionally manipulative dump a' dookie.
PD's favorite movie is Forrest Gump. I don't think he minds that sort of thing.

You guys like emotionally manipulative movies when they cater to you. And besides, that's what movies do anyway. Pretending like you're above that makes you look like an ass. >:(
And besides, my favorite movie is a To Kill a Mockingbird, followed by It's a Wonderful Life

You're shitting me.

1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. It's a Wonderful Life
Forrest Gump is definitely in the top 5 for me though.

Lolz

I've probably seen Forest Gump more than any other movie. When I was in like 6th grade I could quote the first 5 minutes of it :lol
Imitation of Life (the remake) is also in my top 5.
Hey White Man: search for "top 10 favorite movies" with my username and you'll find my top 10

Wow...this has to be a joke.
-
I'd probably take many of the movies off now, but the top 5 would remain the same:

Also, how can you say with a straight face that Last Crusade is better than Raiders? Last Crusade is so sanitized and family safe.

You're right.
I would definitely revise that on the list. I think I'd take Psycho off too.
-
Temple of Doom + Raider of the Lost Ark > Last Crusade
-
These days my list would look like:
brazil - terry gilliam
alphaville - jean-luc godard
aguirre - werner herzog
images - robert altman
videodrome - david cronenberg
blue velvet - david lynch
les samourai - jean-pierre melville
M - fritz lang
The Third Man - carol reed
Pulp Fiction - quentin tarantino
-
I've only seen Pulp Fiction out of that list. :-\

I've only seen Pulp Fiction on that list, which is good but certainly not a be all end all top 10 classic pick. But what do I know, Forrest Gump is in my top 5. :lol
Never heard of most of those movies. I heard of Third Man and Brazil. I loved 12 Monkeys; with that in mind, would I like Brazil?

Pulp Fiction is fucking classic, PD.

They are thematically related. You have to make sure you see the right version of Brazil. There are two cuts - Gilliam's cut, and the studio cut (Love Conquers All/The Happy Ending cut). You have to make sure you see the Gilliam cut. It is the longer of the two. The studio cut is pretty awful, but interesting to watch in comparison to the real movie. Brazil also has one of the best soundtracks of all time.
Yeah Pulp Fiction is pretty great. Not only does Tarantino know how to impress a film buff, but he made the movie that I think does a pretty decent job of standing for the 90s as a pop culture representative.
-
Pulp Fiction is fucking classic, PD.
I agree. But it also features some criminally boring scenes (the vast majority of the Thurman/Travolta date) and extremely forced dialogue (again, the vast majority of the Thurman/Travolta date). But I like Forrest Gump so fuck my opinion.
White Man: I'll check it out then. Hm is Gillian working on any new movies? I remeber JK Rowling said he was her preferred director for Harry Potter but of course that never happend; he said the first two movies sucked but the third was amazing, which is basically my opinion too.

Dude, you can't call anything in PF boring without first citing the like 10 minute taxi sequence with bruce willis. I have no idea how that leaked into the script. Even more disappointingly, the only deleted scenes complete from the movie involve that part of the movie. I didn't find anything boring about Thurman and Travolta. They had excellent screen chemistry.

No idea what Gilliam is doing now. He has trouble funding his own movies so he gets stuck doing crap like The Brothers Grimm. I think he may have kind of given up due to having a particularly rough past 10 years.
-
Oh yea I forgot that scene.
With Thurman/Travolta, much of it was cool. But for instance, the entire part where she "interviews" him was a waste of brain cells. Or the inconsistant dialogue she'd have where one minute she'd talk like a gangster's spoiled wife, than the next like a fucking professor or something. But there were many cool parts between them I guess ($5 milkshake, foot massage, pilot).

Chasing Amy is really, really shit.
-
is there boobs in it?
-

No, and thats half the problem

anything? bra? panties?

Brazil is also really visually striking. It has some of the most interesting set design I've ever seen, and the cinematography is off the hook. If I weren't lazy, I'd do some screencaps now. I can't find much online at the moment, but I've always been fond of this shot:
and of course, this scene, one of the more famous ones in the movie:
There's really nothing like the movie. It's an adventure movie set in a dark, Orwellian future burdened by bureaucracy. There are daydreams, a giant evil samurai, ducts, terrorists, computer bugs, state storm troopers, and mindfucks. It's a fantastic movie.

Yeah everything I've seen from it reminds me of 1984 in spirit, but on an acid trip or something. I'll check it out during the Christmas break along with some other movies I've never seen (like Blade Runner and Third Man)
-
anything? bra? panties?
I would fuck 'Amy' but she isnt hot. I just have really low standards.
-
Has anyone here seen Tideland yet? I thought it was pretty great, although can understand how most people aren't going to get into it.
-
how low standards? o.O
-
Fairly low, I will have sex with any woman between the ages of 19 and 37 if she owns a DS and/or is asian...
-

I don't think I can be friends with an Asian fetishist.

Damn, I had no idea what Brazil was all about. That sounds fucking sweet. Gilliam is pretty much out of his fucking mind.
-

We've discussed this. I don't think I can be friends with an Asian fetishist.
Have we? Yeah it is a really shitty buzz to be on :( Its hard to help when you live in Auckland and 90% of downtown pedestrians are asian :((((((

You can choose between being obsessed with Asian girls and being obsessed with videogames, but you can't have both.

even a fat asian?

It's not Asian girls, but being obsessed with specifically Asian girls.
-
even a fat asian?
ESPECIALLY a fat asian. I had sex with a fat asian DS owner and she bled all over my sheets lol.

Yeah I didn't find her to be that hot. She was pretty small (height wise), which is a turnoff for me. And she was totally flat and skinny.
If you're looking to beat one out, Chasing Amy is not a great movie to watch. Although I certainly got a boner over the "fingercuffs" thing :lol

What's the deal with it? I kinda wrote it off after seeing the reviews weren't so sparkling. What's it about and how good is it?

It's about this young girl whose junkie father dies shortly after they'd moved to the abandoned rural homestead he had grown up in. Basically she encounters some odd characters, doesn't really understand what has happened to her father, and paedophilia, the taxidermy of human corpses and other fucked up shit all occurs.
As for what's so good about it, it's beautifully shot and if you can get past the perversity of it all, really charming. The young girl puts in a decent performance and Jeff Bridges is pretty great as the father.

True lol
I'm 6'3 so there are very few women that are as tall as me. But I prefer women who are not short, but not too tall. Small skinny women with flat chests don't do it for me. It would be wierd for a big guy like me to be walking around with an uber small chick :-[

You'd get to tower over her and shit, that's pretty cool.

That = TOTAL DOMINATION. Just like playing Rugby.

I just watched the first eight minutes of chasing amy and I cant fucking believe i'm just now learning where that "whats a nubian?" line is from.

That's what I thought.

I'm gonna watch Chasing Amy now. Haven't seen it in a few years. I hardly remember anything about it. It'll probably put me to sleep lolz.
-
Gilliam's best movie is TIME BANDITS
-
No, not even the best Kevin Smith film. The ending is fucking terrible, dude. TERRIBLE.
-
I only managed about half an hour of watching last night before I fell asleep. Not to say the movie was boring, but I was just really tired. Tonight I will finish watching it.
The comic con "star wars" scene had me ROTFLOL
can't believe I forgot about that part

Sad does not equal bad!
My awesome rankings:
1. Clerks
2. Chasing Amy
3. Clerks II
4. Dogma
5. Mallrats
6. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
7. Jersey Girl
-
Its not sad, its fucking lackluster as all hell. "I know, I'll show my girlfriend that I'm mature by asking her to fuck me and my best friend." Sounds more like a certain writer couldn't come up with a suitable ending for his film, and pulled a wet dream out of his ass. ::)

Finally finished watching Chasing Amy last night. I knew what was coming up in the end, but I had forgotten all the details. Man, Holden is a stupid ass. I have to say, I didn't care for the threesome scene. Even with everything else that happened up until that point, it still felt out of place. And the ending is bittersweet. Depressing total. I still like the movie, it's just one of those "gotta be in the mood to watch it" sorta deals.

Yeah the threesome thing wasn't pulled off well and didn't seem to fit; you expected a pretty serious discussion/argument, then he starts talking a threesome wtf. I'm sure some people would say the same thing about the Jay/Silent Bob cameo, which I loved.

Shit, I cant believe I forgot Mallrats... well, it would probably go right before JaSBSB...
