Any recommendations? I've gone off recommendations I've found on the web for the past two webhosts I've used, and both have ended up having poor security and bad practices. First was Hostony with the way they'd consistently redirect domains registered with them to their placeholder "squatted" page, even though registration and payments were up to date. Then with IX Webhosting, there's the default 403 and 404 pages that make my site look squatted, and today I found out that a week or so ago, all of their users' FTP passwords were compromised and some scum had modified most every user's .htaccess to redirect to a malware site when users came in from search engines.
So yeah, it's time to move. This is for my news/blog/personal site and for an artist fansite, and for an eventual photo portfolio site. My bandwith and space requirements are nothing huge.

Laughing Squid is awesome.

They look pretty good. I'll make them first on my list of candidates.

DO NOT use Dreamhost
I'm on Lunarpages and they're okay
-
i use dream host and have never had a problem
apparently i am in the minority

I had a terrible experience with Dreamhost, both in quality of hosting and in customer support when things went wrong

I've been using SurpassHosting for years now, and I love them to death.
My only slight complaint is that you have to keep an eye on them to make sure that what you're paying for still matches up to what they're offering in their front page. They don't seem to automatically update existing sites to their new plans.

yeah, again, i hear that a lot but have never had issue myself
but then i use them predominately as a file hosting service and don't demand anything more complex than ftp upload and http download

Yep same here. Not having phone support sucks ass.

I use DemiHosting, which is what this place is on right now

Goddamn. These guys look awesome. Plus, they accept PayPal, which is fucking rare for a good host.
