to a degree, yes

it does a good job with the lore (that i know of.  not really a fan of the original work enough to obsess over everything the guy wrote), and the classes are unique even if their functions are not.

the warden class is kind of fun.

you use two powers in a row and that unlocks a third one which is related to the previous two.

for example

right now i have

attack
defend
taunt

as my base attacks

if i go aa, i get a super attack as a combo follow through
if i use, dd, i get a super defend.
tt, supertaunt and DoT.

if i go ad, I get "the boot" which has a chance to stun the enemy for a few seconds
if i go da, I get a healing spell for self.

nothing for mixing taunts with attack or defend yet.

it's kind of interesting and requires a bit of strategy for things like crowd control.

it does some things well, other things horribly

like quest management and prioritization is kind of a pain and it could do with something like Conan or WAR in the addition of where they mean for you to go to complete the next step of your quest.

i like the story based pve portions of it, but what made me quit last time (besides Conan) was that to advance the story you had to do difficult instances and it was harder at lower levels to get people to run them with you.

now i understand they instituted a few things like a token system (which i don't quite grasp but haven't seen it first hand) to reward multiple runs through instances which should alleviate this, but hopefully with everyone now jumping onboard to try the new classes, it won't be as difficult to locate players at your level to do those instances.

LOTRO is better than WAR and Conan, for sure.

I'd agree. I just think the hobbit quests early on are far TOO immersive. Running pies around avoiding fat lazy hobbits was aggravating

yeah that was something I vowed never to do again.

I'd hear stories from Prole about cool quests he did as a dwarf and i'd be like 'oh I ran pies and eggs and mail around :('

Yeah, If I ever played again (doubtful), I'd probably roll a dwarf.

i did humans to play the Captain my first time through.  i hit up to 16 and there were some good quests but then there were also some lame ones.

right now i'm going through an Elven Warden.  so far it's fun.

Eric P - are you a (paid) tester of MMORPGs of some sort or do you just really like them?
You must have actually tried every major MMORPG release of the last 2 years.

i just really enjoy that style of gameplay and looking back, I pretty much have tried everything which has come out in the past few years except for tabula rosa and that car one.

i even tried playing Guildwars (shudder).

i am not a star wars guy so i can't say i'm looking forward to any of them.  i did not play galaxies.

i would like to actually see a competent sci-fi or modern themed mmorpg if i could.  i didn't really like EVE Online because it was more of an economic simulator than I was interested in playing.

didn't try matrix online because i knew that it would be horrible.

i want to get A Tale in the Desert a shot but I think that it may not be my thing.

I've been doing co-op and pvp rpgs since the days of MUDs and BBS so to me it's just an extension of that.

i do only do one at a time.  i don't do the hardcore grinding every day anymore.  i can play for an hour or two maybe 3 on weekend.

Such potential down the toilet  :-\

Not a fan of the game's art style, and the absence of the Shore score makes me sad.

I really liked the books, wouldn't say I'm some hardcore LOTR person. Still the idea of taking on a Balrog gives me a boner

spoiler (click to show/hide)
but the idea of hijacking a Nazgul - Halo style - and riding it into the heart of Mount Doom gives me an even bigger boner.
