I just beat Fallout 3 and I'm in the mood for another RPG and I want to play a JRPG for some reason. :-\ So what's the best JRPG? I think the last JRPG I played was Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube. I don't care about storyline (if I can skip cutscenes that would be better), I just want a good battle system.
-
Lost Odyssey
-
Havent played either
-
So far:
Lost Odyssey >>> Blue Dragon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Infinite Undiscovery >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Eternal Sucknata
Haven't played The Last Remnant, Enchanted Arms, or Tales of Vesperia yet, everyone seems to like Vesperia so I guess go for that.
-
Tales of Vesperia > Lost Odyssey
I've had Blue Dragon for almost a year now and haven't played it yet, so I can't speak on that. I think I'll play it once I'm done with Mass Effect.
-
Tales of Vesperia.
-
Tales of Vesperia is the best in almost every regard except maybe music
-
I'd say Vesperia is the best all around JRPG on the system but Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are worth the pick up as well if your into a more old fashion JRPG style (and by now they're pretty cheap too).
-
Vesperia.
-
Lost Odyssey --> The Last Remnant --> Tales of Vesperia --> Infinite Undiscovery --> Blue Dragon --> Enchanted Arms --> Eternal Sonata
Haven't played any of these, btw.
-
It depends. If you are looking for all around polish, Vesperia. But LO will make you happier if you're into a Final Fantasy style game.
I'm currently installing TLR!
IU is way worse than BD.
-
I haven't played The Last Remnant or Infinite Undiscovery but right now I'd rank them like this -
Vesperia > Blue Dragon > Lost Odyssey > Enchanted Arms > Eternal Sonata.
The difference in quality between Vesperia and the rest is huge though.
-
Lost Odyssey is probably the best, although it does have a very standard battle system.
Enchanted Arms is actually a very robust game, graphics are assy but theres a fair amount of party customization options (tons of optional fighters for your team) and the battle system is quite unique. Its dirt cheap too, and if you like achievements its a piss easy 1000 points

Don't listen to scenester, he's a scenester meaning he is always wrong. The correct answer is Lost Odyssey.
-
I did say Lost Odyssey is the best
-
I would ignore Scenster, he acknowledges liking Eternal Sonata

His pick was Lost Odyssey. ???

I kind of made myself like it, after 1000 'ing it I fucking hate the game
-
I did say Lost Odyssey is the best
no you didn't; you're wrong, as expected. i'm glad you edited your post to correct your mistake.
-
? I did edit my post to remove an unecessarly inflammatory comment. I always said Lost Odyssey was the best
-
out of curiosity, what makes Vesperia the best? I played the demo and nearly OD'd on sugary cuteness. I'd love to play a good rpg, but it seems like the kind of game I'd turn down, so nobody could hear me play it :lol

the battle system i would say.
i still didn't beat the game but other than yuri's character, the story isn't anything special.
i prefer LO over all, the battle system has this special old school FF charm about it.

you don't think calling me a liar is inflammatory?
-
Lost Odyssey is fucking awesome.
Disc 3 :bow

Reminds me of the time my friend (a Halo and not much else kind of guy) straight up called me a f@g when I showed him an Eternal Sonata video and told him I was thinking of buying that game.
[/quote]
well your friend sounds like kind of a douche, but I put up with a lot of people who would probably do the same thing.
It's like, I like some anime, but Vesperia is to anime-style what the Village People were to gayness (so gay it even turns a lot of gay people off), if that makes any sense.
-
Vesperia fo sho
Lost Odyssey completely failed to work for me. It has distinguished mentally-challenged towns and is slow and boring.
-
vesperia in my opinion
looks good, battle system is excellent, well voiced characters and funny dialouge, fun to play
id say you must like anime at least a little bit to enjoy it though
-
I'm going to suck up my insecurity and play the demo again tonight :)
I'm trying to decide whether to get a 360 rpg or replay FFX next.
-
Vesperia's demo is shit, just like Burnout Paradise.
-
yeah, Vesperia has a pooooopy demo
it's the only JRPG I've managed to finish in like the past 5 years. everything else, the self-loathing gets too severe about 5-10 hours in
-
Tales of Vesperia then Lost Odyssey
-
Vesperia, fo sho, first jrpg I've beat in eons
-
lost odyssey
vesperia is wayyyy overrated
-
Lost Odyssey is great. Infinite Undiscovery and Eternal Sonata are pure garbage. At least Eternal Sonata looks nice though, IU has nothing going for it except DINNER
-
lost odyssey
vesperia is wayyyy overrated
Ever thought that maybe you're just wrong?
-
no, not when i'm right
-
Lost Odyssey; it's a really enjoyable trainwreck with a villain who wears high heels and laughs like the joker. Vesperia is done well on nearly all fronts, but everything about it is so fucking boring. Only one interesting character in the game and the story drags on and on with no high points for over 40 hours.
-
yeah, can't get into the ToV demo. everybody screaming a dumb move name at once in battle ftl...and the guy with black hair looks like Michael Jackson...

I think I'll give Last Remnant a try soon.
-
Last Remnant is really good, but not for graphics whores.

Could someone explain, to someone who hasn't played it at all, what made Infinite Undiscovery suck so much? I remember that at one point it was the most anticipated game of the year for many RPG fans. How did it drop the ball?
The intro is pretty bad, it turned a lot of people off. Once you trudge through it, it's tolerable. Except the scene posted above.
-
So basically the story and characters sucked, and the beginning sections were really bad?
The game really hates you at certain points in the game:
-Shitty beginning
-Pain in the ass achievements
-When Capell (the lead character) dies, you have to wait for your characters to revive you before the screen fades to black... unfortunately, your AI characters are morons and you're lucky if they do in time
-Not being able to pause the game to access the menu
-Long dungeons with nary a save point in them
-Lots of missables
Story picks up a bit towards the end but then dives back into cliche before they do anything interesting with it.
-
Infinite Undiscovery has a cool battle system. But really, it's so by the numbers story wise, and everything feels insipid, and there's kids everywhere, and it just stops being cool pretty goddamn fast.

I think I'm gonna get Lost Odyssey. It's pretty cheap and the art style looks refreshing compared to the generic animu of Vesperia.
