My pleasure. :)

The R4 is pretty dated and is actually one of the worst now. The best two for a while were the CycloDS Evolution and M3 DS Real, and I think they still are although I heard great things about the Acekards. Demi can probably correct me since he knows more on the subject than I do.

The CycloDS seems to have the best support, and the official website has some good forums and a great community. The card itself has a cheap build quality and no spring for the Micro SD card.

The M3 DS Real is just as fully featured as the CycloDS, and has some great build quality. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Cheapest would be AceKard 2 or DSTT

Best would either be M3 Real or CycloDS

I have this, it's decent enough for all the basic stuff you need. UI is a bit naff but who cares? You can't go wrong at 12 bucks including a 2GB memory card!

what about iTouch DS?   It's only $24.99 at woot and seems to be a nice midpoint between the super cheap cards and the high end ones.

Just ordered the Acekard 2 from real hot stuff.  Free 1gb card, $32 shipped.  Not bad, 1gb is all I'll need.

I use an M3 Real and it works perfectly. I even got my brother to get one!

Credit for buying the M3 Real goes to demi, who recommended it to me half a year or so ago.

You could have got a 4GB card for $15 at OfficeMax

But hey, 1GB is all you need

I still use R4 and all games work perfectly.

Don't know why I should upgrade...

all games do NOT work perfectly, and that is fact. you enjoying hacking your games to make them work? me, i enjoy my clean rom dumps and SDHC support, among other things.

I tried Clone Wars on the CycloDS and it wouldn't run.  First game that gave problems.  Then again I haven't tried major games since I actually buy them.

Hacking my roms? What?

I just put the nds. file on the chip and it runs perfectly.

Not saying that I've tried the whole nds library with the R4. But I guess most games will run.

My M3 Mini SD Pro is such a piece of shit. It's a slot 2 device. What an embarrassment.

The 1gb was free though. I can fit like 10 games on there, right?

largest DS games are 128 megs I think
Title: Re: best/cheapest DS lite flashcard?
Post by: Don Flamenco on November 29, 2008, 07:13:33 PM
Chrono Trigger is 128 (and charging $40 for a SNES/PS1 port combo deserves punishment. Fuck square)

I thought I read that they can go up to 256, but w/e.

but ASH and Soma Bringer both suck, right?  seems like j-homos got excited over ASH because it has a cool name and a heroine that shows side boob.

Soma Bringer I heard is alright; someone's putting out a translation patch for it soon because Nintendo of America are too wilde homo to bring it out Stateside.

The only game that doesn't perform perfectly for me is Advance Wars DS, the first one.

Screen glitches up sometimes

When buying pirate hardware, never EVER go for a cheaper solution. This has been true since the snes days. Always buy the most expensive solution since it will tend to get more aftermarket support than some craptastic flashcard assembled by a small family in HK.

Same thing with modchips.

After market support is the key.

id say most ds flashcart brands, if not all of them are made in china (r4/m3/itouch definitely are)
i would avoid the ones with like springs for the memory slot cause those will be the first things to break
I think cyclo is based in europe, not saying they make them there but they might

as for memory Ive gotten some knockoff SD cards and they were shit, stuffs so cheap nowadays anyway no reason for it

hell yeah, my DS I got from ebay is all fucked up cosmetically and missing the serial number!  Note to self: "light scratches from normal use" = dented all over the place, deeply scratched outer case, sticky food goo in the stylus slot, stylus end chewed up, touch screen slightly off center.

On the other hand, the Acekard 2 =  8)
