I thought it was a great movie, one of the best comic movies ever. It's definitely better than the first Spiderman imfo. And I LOVE the Spiderman movies

Yup.

And PD only likes it to perpetuate the "I have no taste" stereotype. :lol

This thread would imply that I witnessed this shitfest of a movie, after seeing the preview. No.

It was meh-tacular.  I think the only reason it kept CrystalGemini's interest was because Brandon Routh is hot.,

76%, and many of the positive reviews being awarded because a) it was directed by Bryan Singer, or b) its better than the last two Supes' films.

I know plenty of people who loathe the film, and I wouldn't necessarily say they're out of line either... >:(

76% on Rotten Tomatoes is nothing to brag home about.  It's no Spider-Man 2 or Casino Royale.

Never said it was. But it's certainly not some kind of abomination either. The movie was fun, exciting, and entertaining. Is it better than Spiderman 2? Of course not. But Spiderman 2 isn't the highbar for comicbook movies anyway (Batman Begins is), nor does a movie have to be as good as it to be relevent.

Superman was fun, I liked it

It was meh-tacular.

You liked the kid and the piano and I'm sure you cried at the end.

"The son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son."

Superman would be fun if they cut out almost every Lois/Supes scene, spent more time on Lex, and probably had more than one big action scene (only thirty minutes into a two hour plus movie? WTF?).

Hell, even my mom didn't cry at the end. And she's a big old softie.

Or Borat!

Honestly, Superman as a character to me is fucking boooooring.  Omg, he's a guy from another planet and he's pretty much unstoppable!  Who cares?  Give me a guy that's fucked up in the head and dresses like a bat to beat the shit out of crooks, or a gay emo kid that wears pajamas and can climb buildings to look at men's asses.

The best part was when
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Borat made a giant island out of kryptonite and fled from the Jewish Krypton Sea Monsters.

I picked it up on BluRay today, got to the part where the kid threw the piano and turned it off.

Yeah, pretty much. The Superman concept is decidedly boring as hell, no matter what Mr. Singer says. >:(

I think Superman is a good character, but no director has put him to good use.  If you're going to depict him as some kind of god who is humble enough to come down from Olympus and fight for the people - push that to the extreme.  Have him doing grand feats, people acting in REAL awe and portray the character that way.

If you're going to make him a science-fiction/fantasy superhero from space - push that to the extreme.  Have him fight giant fucking robots or aliens.

All the films try to make him too human and too grounded, with fake emotional problems and boring superhero plots.

Either make him an absolute God or make him a rock 'em, sock 'em sci-fi asskicker.  Pick one.

Honestly they should kill off the kid and Lois in the next film.I think it's time Superman had some more death in his life.

It always seems like whenever someone tries to write the Superman character, they get too wrapped up in his "mortals are the weakness" thing and end up drawing too much from it, thus making him a boring character with the same formula of super-super to gets-his-kicked to cool-theme-music to lol-he-beat-up-everyone.

Lifting an entire island isn't grand enough for you, Willco? What do you want him to do, get you laid?
Title: Re: Who here actually liked Superman Returns?

Making the kid his is a horrible decision from a narrative standpoint.  How many sequels are we away from Superboy and Superman take on the world?  Probably one, I say.  Way to create a cancer for the franchise.

Personally, I'd rather the kid not be his and so even if he ever got back with Lois, he'd always have a reminder of what could have been and what is not.  Every time he saw that kid, it'd be a slap in the face that Lois loved another man.

No.

Do you not remember about three page thread of me detailing why that sequence sucked and completely destroyed any faith in that movie for me?

It would be better if in Superman 2 we find out the kid is really Bruce Wayne's.

I mean shit, they had him die in the comics from a punch to the face. WTF?

Batman had to get his motherfucking back broken, and even then he was still kicking ass and taking names! :punch

I loved the movie, don't know where all the hate is coming from... I guess it is kinda slow in some parts, and definitely doesn't have the action-to-action sequences like X-Men 3, but I enjoyed the portrayal of Superman, Lex Luther, and the newsroom.  A flawed, but very competent film, and certainly I found it much more entertaining than the Spiderman films (though I admit, that Franco guy did an amazing job as Doc Ock, best part of the whole Spiderman movies).
