I name my character something besides the default, and at the first moment the girl goes "What do you think RODDICK?" anyway. WTF

Also it stutters a lot. I can be walking around a village and it will just stutter. What a technical mess. I will try running at 333mhz.

i'm running @ 333 and not getting any noticeable slowdown.

I am more inclined to blame it on the PSP's weak hardware.

I run it at 333 and only get slowdown in the overworld

Did you CSO it? That could be a reason. I only have a 1GB stick available so I had to compress it.
