Title: Is there a delicate way to say "Sorry your PC is a POS, it's not my fault."
Post by: Joe Molotov on December 07, 2008, 04:42:12 PM
I wish I hadn't told this lady I'd look at her computer. I can't connect to the Internet, could you look at that? Why, sure! I bring it home and plug it up, and the first thing it says when it boots up is "Hard drive failure imminent!" which she didn't mention when she gave it to me. It booted up okay a few times, but now the HDD has completely failed or is close to it. The system won't even post correctly half the time, and when it does it just says some system files are missing, re-setup Windows. I tried to reinstall XP, but the installation just locks up. So not only did I not fix it, but it's gone from "The Internet Won't Work" to "Doorstop", and I know I'm going to be blamed for this.  ::)

"That kid I gave it to wrecked it."

PC-distinguished mentally-challenged people always blame me when I the patient dies while I'm trying to give it CPR.

This.

She knew it's fucked up, she just gave it you to place the blame you for it.

But here's what you should do: return the comp as it is and tell her "yeah there were a bunch of broken stuff that I fixed, now it should be working alright"... then avoid her forever.

Nah, I'll just tell her that her computer's hosed. She told me somebody else gave it to her anyway, and she didn't use it for anything but getting on the internet with, she didn't even have any programs on it. I'm just mad because it makes me look bad, which I suppose is a blessing in disguise since maybe now nobody will ask me to work on their computer again.
