Title: Looking to get a new PC. Wondering if this is a good start.

It's a barebones and includes:


Then i'd add a nice video card to it and just pop the two hard drives i'm currently using into the new one.

How does it look? Hardware isn't my strong point when it comes to computer knowledge, so I don't know whats the best to go with what.

I do know that I would rather have an Intel processor, but I don't need something amazing. Nothing super powerful.

So any pieces of helpful info? Should I go with it?

4 GB of RAM is excellent and the 550-Watt PSU is a great choice. I don't know anything about AMD's processors because I'm now an Intel guy, but 2.2 GHz is decent/good and I'm going to assume it's a dual-core processor, so it's pretty awesome.

What exactly are you wanting to do with your computer? You say you want a super powerful computer but what for? Gaming? What game do you have in mind that you'd like to be able to play at very high/max settings?

no name psu's are weird-they can be 100% rock solid for years, or they can suck total balls. money-wise, it almost always pays to use a "freebie" one that comes with a case or a package deal and just replace it later IF it fails to be up for the task.

I wouldn't trust that thing with 2xGTX 260s or something. But it'd probably handle a 4850 without issue.

Processor is actually a quad core.

And I made a mistake, I meant to say I don't need anything super powerful. Basically I want a computer that can run most of the games out there at mid-high settings at 1680x1050. Games like Stalker: Clear Sky, Far Cry 2, Red Alert 2, maybe Crysis, L4D, and ultimately HL2: Episode 3

A while back I was looking at a Geforce 8800 GT 1GB card. Had a good price on it and it. Hows that sound?

The GeForce 8800 GT 512 I'm using is an excellent card so I have no doubt that the 1GB version would be even better.

I was in the same position as you as to whether to get the 8800GT or the ATI 4850 but I chose the 8800GT in the end. I have no regrets with my decision, however I still don't know how well the 4850 would perform compared to the 8800GT.

Hm, I would honestly rather get an ATI card over an Nivida card.

Grand total of around 450 bucks.

This may be a dumb question. I can just dump my two hdd's in the new system, correct? I'm pretty sure thats the case but there's a hint of doubt. Just install the correct drivers on it and it'll be fine?

my uh old pc class used a bunch of them (modular), no problems
