Title: EB: Name me some good b-tier games
Post by: y2kev on December 13, 2008, 02:24:25 AM
What are some good level b-tier games that kind of got ignored this holiday season? So like if I had played all the major stuff but was looking for some stuff that's not like super great but still pretty fun.

I'm thinking Midnight Club LA, but I'm having trouble thinking of any other games really. Is NFS Undercover any good?

Played it. MC isn't cheap but it looks fun.

I'll probably still wait on MC then.  I got interested in it again since they apparently fixed the AI (I haven't experienced it but everyone saying it had terrible rubberband AI scared me off...I HATE rubberband AI).

Uh, play Alone in the Dark 'slightly less shitty' PS3 edition

no one should subject themselves to any version of aitd. besides kev has already played it.

NFS:  It entirely depends on your ability to tolerate terrible framerates.  It's probably as bad as Advent Rising's was on the XBOX.  I know that's an infamous title on EB, but it's the only thing I can think to compare it to.

It's shallow fun.  It's incredibly easy.  The only races I lost were b/c of the technical issues messing up my steering.

QoS:  Looks like a PS2 game and is 4 hours long.  Decent fun I guess.

Neither game is B level.  But both are beter than Mercs2.

Well Tomb Raider Underworld is a b-tier game to me that I missed, it looks interesting though but I feel like you've already played it.

ROFL

Banjo, Resistance 2, Silent Hill 5, Last Remnant.

If you wanna go trashier you can try Legendary and shit like that, Quantum of solace, etc

y2kev loves that game and devoted dozens of posts to it, and you come in and call it B grade. It made me roffle

Price of Persia and MK vs DC

Both aren't really AAA stuff, but still entertaining.

Banjo 3 is just trash. Avoid.

To help out both jarosh and kev, if you have a Wii I think there's a Soul Bubbles demo on the Nintendo Channel right now.

(checks)

Yep. I'm actually gonna try it now.

I'd like to try that Soul Bubbles demo but sadly I can't connect my Wii online if I want to keep playing TvC

Jarosh's enthusiasm for that game has made me want to check it out

holy shit, just finished the demo

lost three spirits and only found two calabashes  :'(

but WOW at the art, this game is absolutely beautiful

and it's really fun; the drawing additional bubbles full of things like water and gas is brilliant; i also didn't expect so much of a focus on exploration and secrets.

I finished it in about 20 minutes, and it gives you all three abilities. Each time, it branches the path and lets you decide whether to just keep going on to the end or go get the ability.

he already said he would try it out, so it's all cool to talk about it here

I've actually been trying to find out where to buy that game, but Gamestop doesn't even list it.  Did it even comes out in the states? I might go see if they have a used copy or unsold ones.

The PC demo was pretty so-so, didn't seem awful though.

Conan

This. And get the movie soundtrack, rip it to your PC, and then stream it to your 360 as a custom soundtrack. SO AWESOME.

Not paying attention to "holiday season"
I'd recommend blast works for wii. Its LBP for shmup fans. Fun shmup based on the tumiki fighters concept.  You can build your own ships/levels/enemies/bullet patterns and upload them to blastworksdepot.com.  Theres no ingame browser, but you can set up an account and download other peoples creations to your wii from an internet browser.  Grades and rankings can be applied.  Official dlc from the developers still hasnt happened which I suspect is because the game bombed hard.

That's a shame to hear that Blast Works bombed. And it's sad that this is the first I've heard of it. I remember the first one was one of the few third-party games on N64 to really impress my friends, and just last week I was wondering if it was going to be re-released or remade.

Wow. No wonder we get a load of Madden and Call of Duty every year instead of new ideas.
