Ooooo, Tarkovsky.  That means you will have time to jizz in your pants MANY MANY TIMES before the movie finally fucking ends.

this is actually third in our movie watching series, previous entries were Welles's The Trial and Haneke's The Castle.  we started out sort of dating but she doesn't really have any chemistry with me.  she does have taste, though!

How is Haneke's The Castle?  I've heard weird things, but then again it's a weird book and Haneke is a weird director.

Haven't seen any other Haneke movies (she's a fan), but I found it really off-putting at first how it'd do this "sudden fade to black/cut to next scene" thing, because the book is actually a fluid narrative while it lasts, it just breaks off at the end.  Later on it stopped bothering me, either because the scenes got longer or because I just got used to it.  Performances are excellent and the naturalistic style is an interesting contrast to Welles'.

he was definitely one of the main attractions.  The female lead is great too.

I like Ivan's Childhood a ton, but then again it isn't FUCK SHIT TIME DILATION long like the other Tarkovsky flicks I've been exposed to.

I wonder if she'd go for something by Terry Malick as the next installment.

I liked Stalker for it's depiction of the darker side of Soviet Russia, as in the run-down slums and countryside that's been overrun by industrial waste. But the ending...I don't know. It really felt like it was building up to something really good, but then:

They all decide to just go home.

my girlfriend enjoyed the estheticism of stalker, even though she fell asleep, has liked every michael henke movie we've seen together and agrees with me that the thin red line is not only a much better movie then saving privant ryan, but it's one of the most criminally overlooked and unappreciated movies of our time.

though she completely failed me while watching salo, she took my dvd and broke it in half. true story. defiantly try that next.

and hey, I just got a call from her three-plus years later asking if I wanted to watch more movies. I didn't even know she still had my number. kinda stoked to see her again even if I'm pretty much done with fantasizing about romance and stuff.

That would make her a really lazy stalker though. My kind of stalker!

what a romantic, she waited the subjective length of Tarkovsky's STALKER before calling you again :heart

Man, she wants me to come see Hitchcock's Notorious with her tomorrow as part of the Portland Hitchcock festival, this is annoying because (a) I don't know what to wear, it has to be casual enough that it's doesn't feel like I'm taking it too seriously as a date situation but nice enough that I look decent and not like I'm blowing her off or whatever, (b) she wanted to buy a pass for the whole festival but didn't because she's saving her money, I want to just buy her tickets but I don't want her to feel like I'm putting some weird pressure on her or whatever by buying her shit. otoh it is so fucking lame that she isn't going to the whole festival if she wants too and I really wish I could just fucking buy tickets for her, it is not that expensive and I don't care if we're dating or just friends, whatever is fine, the situation just bothers me  :maf   every time we have a conversation it's really awkward too, this is really irritating, I want to see her

So Notorious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dial M for Murder, mostly because it has actual characterization and Ingrid Bergman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Grace Kelly

our conversations were awkward as usual. She wanted me to see another movie with her tomorrow but I turned her down for fucked up logistical reasons
