I'm sort of surprised the entire company hasn't just folded over, or into something else. But this...
"He didn't think anything of it, innocently posting his heartfelt concerns."
Is just a bunch of crap.
-
i wonder if demi still has the copy of lair i bought for him
seems logical. make shit game, cut shit dev team.
-
Who gives a fuck?
-
Yeah... I mean, obviously there was some talent there. And while it can be said that talented people will find new jobs, and that they are better off working somewhere else, it's not exactly a breeze to scout for jobs and likely have to relocate.
-
these fucks made Turrican so shut the fuck up
-
Gaming press nails another one.
-
Life sucks, glad it wasn't me, etc.
-
What game were they working on again?
I had heard they were working on a Superman title, but who knows if that's true.
-
I bet the green fog would have been eye-popping.
-
Who gives a fuck?
Probably the people losing their jobs? I don't know. If it was Bungie, you'd be in here boo hooing.
Ugh, shit developer, that makes shit games, that sell shit, has to lay off people.
Seriously. I'm not madre Teresa, if you aren't good, odds are you are badly positioned, unless you know people. Seriously, if this was happening, to say Starfish, you wouldn't give a shit.
-
Again, I don't support the laying off of any jobs, no matter how crap their development track record is, especially for a game like Lair. Unemployment has to suck, especially around the holidays.
-
It's best to be really two faced about the whole thing and have lots of fun taking shits on terrible games and roffling at their bombas, but then get all weepy and serious when those terrible games and bombas cause the studios to fold.
-
I bought Lair so fuck off
me>everyone else
I also bought Lair. On launch day. For $30.
Thank you Toys R Us for screwing up the price.
-
Lair was really their first bad game, so I'm not gonna just say they should be abandoned or anything like that. It's a shame. Same deal with Free Radical and Haze (which is apparently never getting ported to 360...probably bombed bigger than I thought).
Lair was very bad though. Before I played Wii Music, I'd say it was the worst game I've played since the DS launched.

Nobody supports laying off, unless we are talking about services that affect our lives directly. That's largely how it works, doesn't affect me then whatever.
So, i don't "support" this at Factor 5, but i understand, and i'm not surprised, nor affected.
-
Lair was terrible, i'm just depressed because all the devs. getting laid off have nowhere to go.
Lair was not only a really bad game, it was unplayable. Or it was unplayable if it required motion controls only. At least with analog controls it becomes borderline unplayable.
that says something about Wii Music

The artists and graphics programmers do, tho.

They can go work on some crappy flash-based MMO! There are tons of those in development.
Hey, it beats being unemployed.
-
Midway Austin closed down too
I am gonan be beezy
-
I didn't buy Lair. I feel so guilty now :'(
-
midway chicago also had 100+ layoffs
-
They made Lair, too?
-
They made Lair, too?
no, but on the subject of layoffs
-
Turbine made cuts too.

-
GamesIndustry.biz understands that the positions were in QA and Account Management. Turbine has said that it has no plans to outsource QA or tech support duties going forward.
Expendables

Wasnt Wilco saying Japanese developers were irrelevant? Yet this hemisphere is quickly going to shit for the industry. HD is killing western gaming. If it wasnt for WoW I'm sure Activision wouldnt have scraped by either.
Ive been saying this for awhile now because I'm fully nourished by iwata's teat, but HD was the wrong fucking priority this gen. We'd still have a graphical jump (gears on an sd is still sex), affordable consoles, cheaper games, better framerates, the evolution of online services, digital distribution, and mid-tier developers wouldn't be suffering from one bad sales performance because dev costs are through the roof.
-
yeah, sure dude
-
lol
-
The job cuts speak for me!
Bu Bu but dead space charted on october NPD why is EA posting losses :[
-
cause of the dirty poors who refuse to adapt. what can you do.
-
In the current situation? Not much. Blame HD.
Fuck, waggle resident evil at $30 had bigger returns, both of them.
-
yes i am glad a disgusting port sold well. that is what i have always wanted.
-

The studio's in San Rafael, about 30 minutes north of San Francisco. Probably not much relocating involved for most people, though you're right: finding new work is always stressful.
